1977 saw a return to ballad style winners, after three years of up-tempo songs claiming victory. The voting was a shambles this year, with many countries getting their results confused and announcing incorrect scores. 9 out of the 18 countries had to have their scores adjusted by the end of the night, but the result wasn't affected, as France won for the first time since 1962. It was also the UK's 10th 2nd place in 20 contests, and their last 2nd place for a very long time.
