For the second time in the contests history, a country won for the second time in succesion. It was Israels turn to win on home territory, with an anthemic song which was ten times better than their previous years entry. Due to the next contest being held on the same date as their Holocaust Rememberance Day, Israel decided not to take part in the 1980 contest, and are therefore the only nation not to defend their title to date.
