The breakup of Yugoslavia into smaller states, saw 3 new countries enter for the first time, taking the total to 25 nations, a total which has been set to not be exceeded. Although the new nations were taking part, the result was the same as the year before, with Ireland and United Kingdom coming 1st and 2nd. It was definately a year for the ladies, as 5 out of the top 6 placings were female soloists. Irelands victory was the third time a nation had won consecutive contests, but they went on to improve on that by winning again in 1994, and completing the hatrick.
