January 2007 Wichita Mountains Trip

On a warm sunny day in January, we went to the Wichita Mountains. It was a spectacular trip, and we visited several new areas of the Refuge. Many unusual birds were present in large numbers, and there was even a butterfly (a Dainty Sulphur)! Here is some scenery from the trip.

Wichitas and shortgrass prairie in early morning light.

Snow on the Wichita Mountains.

Stream and valley near Rush Lake.

Canyon near Quanah Parker Lake, with snow!

Prairie grasses and oaks on trail to Osage Lake.
