Pictures from the Wichita Mountains, October 2005
In early October, I took a trip into the Wichita Mountains for some hiking and sightseeing. There were a lot of interesting things to see.
View to the east from the summit of Mt. Scott. View to the northwest from the summit of Mt. Scott, looking across the Wichita Mountains. Prairie grasses in a valley between mountains. A view of the Wichita Mountains from near Fort Sill, to the south. Bison at the prairie dog town. An inquisitive prairie dog. A view of Quanah Parker Lake. A different view of the lake, with mountains in the background. A rocky bay of Quanah Parker Lake. Canyon just downstream of Quanah Parker Lake.
A portion of a suspected tornado damage track near the Kite Trail. Mountain near the head of the Kite Trail--it looks like a pile of boulders. Rocky hillside along the Kite Trail. Canyon along the Kite Trail.
Another view of the canyon along the Kite Trail. Closeup of the canyon and stream along the Kite Trail.
A typical landscape along the Kite Trail. Another typical landscape of the Wichitas.
