Community Policing and Safety
8 of 12 homicides in New Haven occurred in Dwight last year. We need to improve our relationship with the police. We need to return to the Nick Pastore model of community policing, where the police have a relationship with youth, drug dealers, and homeowners, and effectively protect all of us. We need police who will walk, NOT DRIVE THROUGH, our streets at all hours. Many elderly people live in our neighborhood and do not feel safe. Many of their concerns, such as better lighting and tree trimming, can be addressed by an alderman. These concerns, if addressed, would also increase security in our neighborhood. I am currently lobbying the city to install better streetlights on Elm Street and Goffe Street as well as trim the trees that overhang those streets.
