Patty Zimmerman for Juneau Mayor

BP/ARCO Merger
The 19% decrease in Oil Lease Revenues put more pressure on Municiplaities so I wrote this letter to protest the British Petroleum, Atlantic Richfield Merger.
Dear Anchorage Assembly Members,

I am confident that you are aware that former FTC attorneys contracted by the State of Alaska as independant experts testified at the Senate Finance Committee meetings that Alaska would experience a 19% decline in oil lease revenues if the misguided BP-ARCO merger is allowed. Facing a 700 million dollar budget deficit, decreasing our state oil lease income by giving 72% of our crude oil to one company is an egregious mistake that must be stopped.

Be alerted that Intermodel Surface Trasportation Equity, (ICETEA) is a laughing stock in Alaska. In S.E. AK we do not have motor coach, (bus) service to the Ferry Terminals and in Anchorage the bus does not run to the Airport.

Citizens groups are organizing now to revitalize Av Gross', (Former Alaska Attorney General) fight to disband the monopoly that Alaska Airlines holds on this state.

I commend your work to increase the consciousness of your political constiuency. It is important to remember that people matter more than money, and we need more people watching the money in Alaska. Transparency in Accounting is on the ascendancy, please call for it loudly regarding the BP-ARCO merger.

Sincerely,

Patty Zimmerman, Public Administration Student UAS, Treasurer, Douglas Neighborhood Association.

Explanation of my differences with Mr. Botthelo sent to Police Chief Browning

Thank you for taking time to meet with me yesterday. I wish you great success in your new career and once again welcome you to our exceptionally beautiful city.

I commend the direction that you intend to lead the Juneau Police Department. Community Policing and Arbitration are superior methods to maintain the peace.

Officer Hanson, who recently retired from the Juneau Police Department is a well loved legend in Community Policing in Juneau. Even the people who were, "hauled in" by Officer Hanson have endearing things to say about him. He had a gift for using victimless humor in tense situations.

Steve Pearson is an Attorney in town who has specialized in Arbitration.

Perhaps these two individuals could serve as resources for you in your noble endeavors.

GOETHE.

Regarding my differences with the Attorney General. I agree with former Federal Trade Commission Officials, (attorneys) who were contracted by the State of Alaska to assess the impact of the British Petroleum, (BP)-Atlantic Richfield, (ARCO) merger. These experts testified at Senate Finance Cmt. meetings this Spring that the merger as written would give over 70% of Alaska's oil reserves to one corporate entity leaving the Exxon Mobile Corporation in a compromised in bidding situation with less than 14% control of Alaskan oil reserves. They stated that Alaska could expect to LOSE approximately 19% of our oil lease revenue if the merger were allowed to continue.

Oil Lease revenue is currently the State of Alaska's largest source of income.

I agree with experts that it is unlikely that Phillips Petroleum entering the deal was serendipitous. As two of my brothers are geologists with great experience in oil and gas development, my own knowledge of the industry makes me highly suspicious, of Phillips, "sudden" discovery of a new oil deposit within two months of the merger. Unconfirmed reports, indicate that Governor Tony Knowles, (originally from Oklahoma) has a relative works for Phillips Petroleum at a fairly high level....his Mother.

I believe that these experts are correct. The proof will come soon enough when oil leases are renegotiated.

Please note that, the, "Juneau Empire" chose not to print the results of the Douglas Neighborhood Association elections in which I was elected Treasurer. The, "Juneau Empire" also broke a long standing tradition of printing Mayorial appointees, by not mentioning that I was appointed to the Juneau Energy Advisory Council.

I have spoken with both Brett and Jim of the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Junuau at their Federal building offices regarding my concern with corruption within the Federal Trade Commission and my potential danger as a protester with an easy person to pin any ill-doings on ....Clarke Damon.

I also alerted the City Attorneys to my concern over my personal safety during last years Municipal Election in September.

Thank You.
Patty Zimmerman
