Patty Zimmerman for Juneau Mayor
Democracy
The large number of neighborhood associations and citizen groups in Juneau are an indicator that city hall has not been listening
Campaign finance reform:
It's impossible for anybody who
isn't corrupt to win. Candidates must sell themselves to corporate sponsors in order to be able to afford the advertising required to secure voters' support. After such candidates are elected they rarlt bite the hand that has fed them by proposing legislation that goes against their sposnors wishes.
Citizens' complaints against gov't waste, fraud & abuse & whistleblowers' charges of workplace abuses or hazards to health,
safety or the environment should be supported by subsidized lawyers.
Legalese must be simplified so that the general public is not shut out from readily understanding & challenging laws.
I support:
-
Citizen control over public lands, airwaves, social institutions, pension funds & other societal assets
-
Easier voter registration
-
State-level binding initiatives/ referendums
-
Proportional Representation; Public campaign financing; Instant Runoff Voting; Term limits; Preferential Ballot voting
-
Fully accountable representation
-
Timely & accurate release of gov't info
For those who think i'm running for office for the money, Juneau's mayor works
at least 40 hours a week for a salary of $2,500 a month. I could make more money waiting tables. I'm doing this because I believe in the issues I am raising and know I would provide Juneau with the best public service as its mayor.
