Patty Zimmerman for Juneau Mayor

Problems with the current administration

Even though I respect mayor Egan so much that I would not have run for mayor had he been running, some revisions to the current system need to be made.

Cut Legal costs
The city charter calls for one attorney, singular. If situations arise where the workload overwhelms the city attorney we can hire another temporarily but we don't need four of them idly absorbing our taxes.

Driving while intoxicated
Alcohol measures are prescribed as "preventative" in nature by our city charter. However, DUI (driving under the influence) citations are a growing cash cow in Juneau. We have 1/8 the population of Anchorage yet we obtain 4 times as much "revenue" from busting our citizens with DUIs. My house painter got a DUI while sitting in his living room. Police officers should enter bars and communicate the need for designated drivers personally to their Juneauite neighbors instead of hiding outside of them waiting to pounce on their next arrest. Improved bus service would relieve some of the drinkers' need to drive.

Safety
Stalking laws are on the books to protect victims from repeated harassment but they are rarely enforced. As a female mayor I will be more sympathetic to victims' needs.
