Overview and History |
Examples of the Scopedog's success are innumerable. The years of 7180-7210 best represent the model's versatility, taking into account the Miyoite War, the Parumis War, and finally the hellish Sunsa War that included the Red Shoulders. The cease fire that ended the Hundred Years war placed limitations on the use of M-class ATs, making them expendable in the post-war environment. But military researchers have put this "downtime" to use, developing the new FX (Future Experimental) series based on the success of the M-class series. |

Designer Notes |
When someone talks about armored troopers, there's a good chance they are talking about the Scopedog. This machine is the standard Armored Trooper of the Gilgameth/Merukian Armies, and as such, served as the base for nearly all the Armored Trooper designs used by the two armies. The Scopedog is extremely common and can be found in nearly all the junkyards of the Astragius Galaxy. A junkyard usually has enough of them to rebuild a complete, functioning machine in just a few hours. The Scopedog can be equipped with all kinds of add-ons, such as a "round mover" backpack for space action or a parachute pack for combat drops. It can also use dozens of different weapons, but the standard is the 30mm GAT-22 rifle cannon, which is as adaptable as the Scopedog itself. Two of the most oustanding pieces of equipment of the Scopedog design are the "armored punch" (a kind of powered punch) and the "roller dash" wheels under its feet which permit the machine to literally "power skate" at great speeds. |
Owing to its sheer versatility, the Scopedog is state-of-the-art in AT development circa Astragius Year 7213. Its primary features include a lens turret which links directly to the pilot’s goggles, a hydraulic-powered arm punch, and gliding foils built into the feet. Utilizing a coreless motor, the foils rotate like wheels to propel the Scopedog forward in a "roller dash." (The Balarant Fatty doesn't use this system, opting instead for hover jets.) The pile gun assembly on the outer foot houses a jackhammer-like turnpick that acts as a manuevering mechanism, thus adding to the manuverablity of the Scopedog. The limbs of the Scopedog are powered by muscle cylinders, and conventional motors operate the hands, feet, and major joints such as the neck and waist. The internal electrical system is mounted on the stable elements of the framework. Limbs are attached to the body by flexible crank arms. |
