Does
God Really Love Me?
Think for a moment about God's love for you. Do you
question God's love for you most when you are
struggling with difficulties or when you are aware of your
own deficiencies? David describes God's love in
Psalm 13:5 But I trust in your unfailing love; my
heart rejoices in your salvation. This truth can
bring you comfort when you face trouble because you can
count on God and His love for you. There is no one
who loves you better than God does. All you need to do is
trust Him to keep His promise to love you. Psalm
52:8 But I am like an olive tree flourishing in the house
of God; I trust in God's unfailing love for ever and
ever. Do you feel like that?
I've personalized the Psalms and when I've prayed them
back to God I could feel His presence. Psalm 63:3-4
Because your love is better than life, my lips will
glorify you. I will praise you as long as I
live, and in your name I will lift up my hands. When
David faced difficulty, he recalled the times God was
there for him. It isn't hard to remember how God
protected us from danger and distress. We know that
God's love will carry us through the bad times. God
alone can satisfy our deepest longings.
God's love also plays an important role in how He responds
to our sin. Lamentations 3:22-23 Because of the
LORD's great love we are not consumed, for his
compassions never fail. They are new every morning;
great is your faithfulness. There would be no
hope for humans in this life or in eternity without
God's love. It provides the hope we need to avoid
the destruction that attends sin. This hope is in
Jesus Christ.
Yet,
we should never take God's love for granted. His
patience and kindness towards us should cause us to
continually turn from sin to obedience. God is
waiting for us to follow Him. He gives us
plenty of chances to turn from sin.
God went to great measures to show His love to us when we
were still
sinners. He didn't wait for us to merit His
love. He sent Jesus to earth to die on the
cross. If God would do that while we were still
sinning, think how much more He will do for us once we
choose to live for Him? Read Romans 5:8-10.
God, out of His infinite mercy chooses to save.
As
Christians, we can have confidence of God's love.
Consider what Romans 8:35-39 says. There is
absolutely nothing that can separate us from God's amazing
love. Nothing! Because of God's love through
Jesus Christ, we can claim victory over everything that
tries to obstruct God's love for us.
God
has done a lot for you. Consider what you can do for Him.
Ephesians 6:24 offers a suggestion. Your love for God
should be continual, without end, and unceasing.
Take a moment to reflect on how God's love for you should
affect your love for Him. Do you believe that God's
love is enough for you?
