She was born in Northern Moldavia in Romania.  
She completed her musical training in the Bucharest Academy, The Benedetto Marcello Conservatory in Venice, and Stockholm Opera School. She entered the La Scala Opera School and attended master class held by famous singers and private voice teachers.
Ms. Cegolea won important voice competition such as the Christine Nilson and Jussi Bjorling Voice Competition in Stockholm as well as voice competitions in Lonigo, Peschiera del Garda and Parma, Italy. She made her italian debut at La Fenice of Venice interpreting Manon in Puccini's Manon Lescaut, the opera with  which she made her La Scala debut with Placido Domingo, directed by Georges Pretre.
Ms. Cegolea sang the title role in Mascagni's "Parisina" under the direction of Gianandrea Gavazzeni at the Rome Opera. Other performances are "Risurrezione" by Alfano (Teatro Filarmonico of Verona); Verdi's "Ballo in Maschera", Puccini's "Manon Lescaut" and "Petite Messe Solennelle" by Rossini (Teatro San Carlo in Naples); "Pagliacci", "II Trovatore" and "La Boheme" (Teatro Bellini in Catania); "Tosca" (Gran Teatro of Brescia and Trieste); "La Boheme", "Andrea Chenier", "Traviata", "Attilla" and "Ernani".
Ms. Cegolea made her debut abroad at the Teatro Reale of Copenhagen in "Tosca", a role she also sang in Stockholm, Oslo, Berlin and Munich.
She sang Verdi's "Nabucco" (Dusseldorf and Palma di Majorca); "Anna Bolena" (Stuttgart); "Manon Lescaut" (Australia and Brazil); "Simon Boccanegra" (Glasgow and Bonn); "Adriana Lecouvreur" (Malta);  "Lucrezia Borgia" (San Francisco); "Don Giovanni" and "Don Carlo" (New Jersey, Spain and Hungary); "Otello", "Aida" and Tosca"(Ljubjana), "La Boheme" (South Korea, France); and "Il Trovatore"(Nice, Catania).
Ms. Cegolea opened the bicentennial celebrations of the French Revolution singing Giordano's "Andrea Chenier" in Liege and Versailles. She also performed in two new productions of "Tosca" in Bern and Basle. She returned to la Scala in Mose" by Rossini, Mussorgkij's "Kovanschina" and "Pagliacci" by Leoncavallo.
Ms. Cegolea's vast repertoire includes roles in Italian, German, French and Russian as well
as concert
music in Swedish, Rumanian, Italian, Latin, English and German.
