The VPA-East Executive Committee is pleased to invite you to a Spring Get-together to celebrate Ugadi/Varusha Tho(Ho)daku (New Year) on

Sunday, April 1, 2001 from 12:00 Noon to 5:00 P.M.

at Oregon Ridge Park «Lodge», 13401 Beaver Dam Rd., Cockeysville, MD.

Oregon Ridge Park is a 1034 acre park located in the suburbs of Baltimore with hiking trails, nature center etc. (For information call 410-887-1818.)

Agenda for the Get-together:

12:00 Noon to 3:00 P.M. - Registration, Social Hour (appetizers/drinks) & Lunch (catered by Mughal Garden Restaurant, Baltimore).

3:00 to 5:00 P.M..- Welcome Address by the President, Chief Guest's Speech, Cultural Activities, Sparklers/Fire Crackers for children.

Mrs. Leela Sreenivas will be coordinating the cultural activities. To make this special event a success we need your participation. To volunteer your talents (Fashion Show, Classical/Modern Dance, Songs, Skits, etc.) please contact Mrs. Leela Sreenivas at 301-879-0911.

In ordered to meet various expenses, we request you to sponsor the event by sending us (tax-deductible) donations. (A donation of $500 will enable us to provide you with a free room at one of the finest hotels near the Oregon Ridge Park and free registration for your family.)

Dear VPA Members,

We like to take this opportunity to thank all of you for having placed this responsibility and trust with the new executive committee and we hope to do our best in the next two years. Also, we take this opportunity to thank and commend the previous executive committee headed by Dr. Seetharam Gowda of Ellicott City, MD, for the splendid job performed during the last two years. In the coming year we plan to have five major events. They are as listed below.

· Our first function is going to be the Ugadi (New Year)/Varusha-Tho(ho)daku which will be held on Sunday, April 1st, 2001, in Oregon Ridge Park Lodge, Baltimore, Maryland.

· Summer Camping/Picnic on Saturday, August 18th, 2001, at Catoctin Mountain Park, Thurmont, MD for outdoor participation of Vokkaligas.

· Deepavali (Festival of Lights)/Karada Oota Function will be held in Nov. 2001.

· Sports (e.g., Kabadi for men and Kokko for Women etc.) Tournament to test VPA-East Vokkaligas athletic abilities.

· Thanksgiving/Christmas Luncheon for homeless people.

· Also, it is a great pleasure to host «7th VPA National Convention 2002" in VPA-East Region.

We would like to take this opportunity to encourage all VPA members to suggest activities and events that they feel might be interesting to include in the next two years events.
