COURSE POLICIES

ATTENDANCE AND LATE WORK: Every effort should be made to attend class on a regular basis. Neither late work nor makeup work will be accepted. If absent, all in-class lecture notes, assignments and assignment sheets must be obtained from fellow students, not through the professor. Copies of assignment sheets will usually be available on the website. In-class writings cannot be made up. If you are to be absent from a conference or sign-up night because of a general or family emergency, the professor must be contacted by e-mail or phone on or before the date of the absence to arrange a date for makeup. Missing conferences or sign-up nights for any reason should be extremely rare. Any arrangements made with the professor should be sincere and must be kept. Students will not retain teacher input or improve their writing over a long period of time if conferences are not attended. For this reason, all of your attendance grades will consist of signing up and attending conferences or library orientations.

PLAGIARISM: Plagiarism is a serious offense. It includes: 1) Word for work copying of another’s work. This includes printing papers off the Internet or having someone else write a paper for you. 2) The borrowing of another’s phrase or terminology if that phrase of terminology is truly distinctive, and 3) The borrowing of another’s ideas if those ideas are truly distinctive. Don’t ever take credit for someone else’s thought or work. If you are ever in doubt on any of these issues, ask the professor or give credit where credit is due. If a student is caught plagiarizing or cheating in any way, the student will receive a zero on that assignment.
