Gary and I were "activists"-- civil rights, pro-choice, anti-Vietnam war, anti-nuclear weapons, anti-Iraq war.  Walked for awhile on 'The Great Peace March' protesting nuclear weapons.  The marchers completed the trip from California to Washington, D.C., but I left them to work at Freeze Voter in D.C.  This led to my position with Congressman Skaggs in Colorado.

Lived a year in Mexico and a year in Minneapolis--Gary's research fellowships.
Lived a year in Canterbury, England, U.of Kent.  Gary exchanged teaching positions.
We chartered sailboats twice when we were there.  Once on the Broads.  Next in the Greek Islands.
Went around the world on the Semester at Sea.  Gary taught and I took classes. Great!

Loved sailing always.  Owned a cruising sailboat.  Enjoyed living aboard during a sabbatical as well as summers and a semester while Gary taught at U. of Miami.  After we sold the boat we chartered out of Nantucket, the Bahamas, the Windward islands, and Athens, Greece.  Other extracurricular activities that the whole family enjoyed are camping, hiking skiing, canoeing and mountain biking--especially extended back country pack trips in Utah.  And last, but not least, we all enjoy reading.

In Feb. 2002 I met Harry Reed, a retired Michigan State University history professor.  We live together now in Boulder.
Sylvia Kelsey Spotts
Sylvia has sent us her poem (see Poet's Corner) and writes-

"I am (we are) well, and most grateful for the fruits given to me at G.S.
God bless all!"
