P. Burton Powell
Burt writes-
"I served in the military when the country was not what you call being on a war footing (1958-60).  I was trained in artillery (mobile rockets), but spent the last six months of my tour playing baseball."

"I graduated from the University of Virginia in January, 1961, with a B.S. in Commerce.  I managed two law firms for about 40 years and was instrumental in forming tha last one in 1985 with a couple of the younger partners of the first law with which I was associated.  I did go to the University of Miami Law School at night for a short time, but withdrew to manage the first law firm where I was employed.  I fully retired in June, 2001."

"I could put a room to sleep talking about what I did for 40 years."
Carolyn "Kellie" Hiltner
I am currently retired and living in a Condo in the Cleveland area, with my dog "Charlie".  Thoroughly enjoying retirement, I might add.  I am taking a variety of classes, with no special goal in mind, and doing "gentle Yoga" and other exercise classes, in addition to volunteering and on the Board of Directors of an interesting Day Care Center, and occasionally go off on a trip.

After graduating from G.S. I went to the G.S. Work Camp in Germany.  It was a wonderful experience.  Then off to college at Bucknell University, where I had a triple Major in Psychology, Religion , and Sociology.  Then right after that, I went to Smith College School of Social Work.  It was quite literally right after graduation, since the School of Social Work starts in the summer for the class work, then off to other locations for the internships.  The first year, I went to Chicage, then the next year to Boston, with 8 weeks of intense class work in-between.  I received my MSW in August of 1960, and went to Cleveland for my first job."

I worked there for 10 years, doing family counseling and a little bit of everything.  Then on to Pittsburgh to the Pittsburg Child Guidance Center which was the Child Psychiatry wing of the University of Pittsburgh.  We became part of the Community Mental Health System to provide consultation and direct service for the emerging mental health centers, and I moved into a management position to establish working relationships with the other agencies and help them identify their needs for treatment of children.  We would then provide the teaching and direct services that they needed.  Living in Pittsburgh also gave me the opportunity to be the doting aunt to my brother's four children.  It was all great until the money ran out and the Center was merged more closely into the Department of Psychiatry.  I decided to leave and go back for a PhD.

So twenty years after graduating from Smith, I went back to Case Western Reserve University full time in the social work department.  It was a bit of culture shock to go from the working world into academia!  I made it through one year full time, then my money ran out and I had to find a job to survive.  I got as far as the "ADB" then quit.  Going to school and working full time was too much and my motivation ws waning.  So I stayed in Cleveland as a unit director at the Catholic Counseling Center, which served adolescents and their families. Then about 14 years later, Catholic Charities decided to do a major overhaul of all their service  agencies, merging many different types of service agencies to be all under one admisistrative structure.  I moved up the ladder to direct all the mental health services in our county, then it was decided to decrease this part of their services.  I left with one year to go until retirement, so I found a part time job until I could relax and enjoy life which is what I am doing with a wonderful circle of friends and the above mentioned activities.

Hope to see everyone in May.
