VRCau - The Format of the Challenge

Day 1 - Registration and Symposium Sessions

Day 1 of the Vertical Rescue Challenge will comprise Registration, Equipment Scrutineering, Team Leaders Briefing, Judges Briefing, and Symposium Sessions. The symposium will include both presentations and workshop sessions run by some of Australia's leading authorities in Vertical Rescue.

Day 2 - Skins Elimination Competition

Day 2 of the competition will take the form of a number of "skins" events which all teams will take part in. The skins events are each very small and specific tasks, designed to provide a snap shot of the team's abilities - and to target training on specific areas. Some of the skins events will be made known to all teams, the others will be advised to the teams on the day of the competition.

The successful finalists will be announced at dinner Saturday night.

Day 3 - Finals Events

The venue for the finals events is a quarry on private property at Duckmaloi, just east of Oberon.

The finals competition is based around simulated rescue scenarios. Teams will be briefed on the actual scenarios for each evolution on the day.

For the VRC2k, the two evolutions chosen were the "Raise and Lower Evolution" and the "Rapid Evacuation Evolution".

Evolutions for the 2002 Vertical Rescue Challenge will be "Anything Goes" and "Limited Equipment Raise and Lower".

Alternative "challenging" entertainment is being considered for members of those teams unfortunate enough to be knocked out in the skins competition. This will be in the form of elective activities to allow personnel to watch other teams or get involved in a challenge as it suits them. So far we are planning 3 Repechage Events: a Crevis Rescue, a Tyrolean and a Single Rescuer Mid Rope Rescue.

Following the Finals Competition, all participants are invited to attend the Closing Dinner.
