African Violets add great beauty and enjoyment to our lives, but at my
house, the people aren’t the only ones who enjoy them. You see, I am the
proud possession of Wally the African Violet Cat! Wally loves my AV’s and
thinks that they, like me, are his. He baby-sits the new leaves I put
down, brooding over them with great interest. Unfortunately, Wally’s
favorite violet, a “no name” from Lowes, met an untimely end when he used
it as a pillow, thus causing it to develop crown rot. He is still saddened
by this loss. Thankfully, he has since learned that violets are not
pillows. However, he still believes that a little cat fur on the leaves
makes the violet bloom more, a theory I’ve never been able to prove or
disprove, since all my violets have cat fur on the leaves! |
| Wally is a pedigree Scottish Fold. This breed of cat has ears that
naturally fold forward, big round eyes, and long flexible tails. They are
known for being companion cats, and will follow their person from room to
room. Scottish Folds are also known for their flexibility and odd ways of
sitting, including the “Buddha sit”, which involves sitting up on their
rear ends. Wally has been in several cat shows, and has even attained the
title of Premier, which is the equivalent of champion among neutered cats.
His official name is PR Kinross Sir Walter Scott, with Kinross being the
name of the cattery he came from. That being said, he much prefers to be
called Wally or Wally Baby. |
Wally
is very involved in Violet Reflections. He attends the Tuesday night chat
regularly and often stops in on other chats. There is nothing he likes
better than a cup of catnip tea and a good violet chat, especially if
Benny or any other cats are around. Many months he participates in bingo,
using my name as a front. He is currently trying to get some Silverglade
leaves to have babies. I must say that they have to be the most watched
leaves ever! Having an African Violet cat around is quite a privilege. While most of us have hand raised violets, mine are paw raised! Where else can you find that. |
| Thank you Mary Williams for sharing Wally with us! He is a beautiful cat and being as he likes african violets makes him a perfect pet for any african violet lover. |
