VIVEKANANDA STUDY CIRCLE

INDIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY - MADRAS

GENESIS OF THE VIVEKANANDA STUDY CIRCLE

Though there has been many such study circles in this institute earlier, the roots of the present study circle can be traced to the early 1990's. IIT Madras has always seen students interested in profound subjects, and earlier small and informal groups used to exist even in the name of Vivekananda Study Circle itself. The institue has , over the years, had the fortune of many seers coming over for lectures etc including Swami Ranganathanandaji for Convocational address.

The seed that they planted, watered with the selfless efforts of many students and some faculty, sprouted as a formal Forum named Vivekananda Study Circle, on 27th September 1997 with the inaugural talk by Swami Brahmesanandaji. The first regular weekly meeting was on the Vijayadasami day of 1997.
