Reno will be naspa now. For those of you who
were coming to Reno particularly because it
was non-naspa, please email me, so we can talk
about alternatives: a separate division,
refunds, etc. Rick and I are brainstorming
on that, too.
As Steve Pellinen very eloquently said, our
requirement for going naspa was to have the
steering committee mandate the creation of
a bylaws committee, which, for us, meant that
we wanted to make sure that Naspa was to be
truly run by elected representatives. I do
appreciate the work that the current Naspa
volunteers are doing, and our efforts should
in no way be interpretted as unappreciative of
what is being done.
In the end, the initiative narrowly was
voted down. Steve has promised me to make
it a priority after the NSC and feels that there
is much popular support on the steering
committee and the Naspa populace, but that
the timing was too rushed, not all members
could participate, and the overtone of a
threat didn't work well for us. So we
are acquiescing at this point and hoping
for reform in the future. We could change
our position in the future if that reform
doesn't happen, but the fact is (that i
was ignoring) is that there is a lot of
"bringup" right now in Naspa, and it will
take time to make this all work right.
