Here is a personal sketch for visitors to my home-page. Please feel free to Email me. Click on the words in pink for more details. If you have varied interests and a wide world-view--all the better! |
I was born and raised in tropical South India blessed with two seasons--the hot and the hotter! (This explains my permanent tan ;-). I grew up in Madras (Chennai), India--yes, the land of hot curry--with a great appetite for...well....l-e-a-r-n-i-n-g. As a former foreign-going Ship Captain I have been fortunate to visit all the continents except Antarctica. Anyway, the pudgy seal is not a good role model for weight-watchers like myself, and frozen landscapes below -60 C don't thrill me all that much. Over the past few years in Canada and Sweden, the snow-laden winters have often made me want to flee towards the equator! (Okay, this is an exaggeration, but you get the point). On March 31, 2000, I took the chilly plunge and became a citizen of multi-cultural, peace-loving Canada.
My hobbies and interests are quite a jumble: hiking, computers, oil painting, photography, poetry, public speaking, freelance journalism, reading (historical, biographical, motivational books), Bible studies, music (classical, Gospel), nature, camping, boating, gardening, volleyball, science & technology, international politics, cultures & languages, and cooking spicy food.
I also speak in churches and conferences, do some writing for publication, and volunteer to assist elderly people and unemployed adults in the community.
I enjoy travelling for evangelistic missions and to present international conference papers on management. I have been fascinated by various cultures and languages since childhood and through my globe-trotting. Consequently, I have studied Russian, German, Spanish, French, Hebrew, and Greek. So if you know more than two languages, compare notes with me--you might be surprised!
I got married on May 18, 2002, in Chennai to my delightful and beloved wife Helen in an Indian-style Christian wedding that was truly memorable. We now have a lovely baby daughter, Serena (born on February 20, 2003, in Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, near Helen's hometown in South India), Serena practically rules our lives with her cute mannerisms, novel tricks, and stubborn streak (inherited from both parents!).
Have a fun week/weekend, and remember to make EVERY DAY count. Carpe Diem ("Seize the day!"). Here's an inspiring poem from India, my "native land." (This was originally written in Sanskrit, a classical, ancient 'mother' language of India; I had to memorise it as a student in a military high school! Note: The text is shaped like an ancient Indian lamp-stand): |
SALUTATION TO THE DAWN
Look to this day--
For, yesterday was but a dream,
Look well, therefore,
For it is LIFE,
The very life of life!
In its brief course
Lie all the verities
And realities of your existence:
The bliss of growth,
The splendor of action,
The glory of achievement!
And tomorrow is only a vision.
But TODAY well-lived
Makes every yesterday
A dream of happiness,
And every tomorrow
A vision of hope!
To THIS day!
For this is
The salutation
To the Dawn!!
KALIDAS
