| CARE OF CORYDORAS CATFISH |
| pH: 6.5-7.5, not too dependent on pH. Avoid extremes. Temperature: 70-77 Degree F Hardness: Since most corys are from the Amazon basin, they are used to soft water. They will adapt to a lot, and peat filtration or other water modification is usually not necessary, unless you wish to breed. Species: Many are common, captive bred aquarium store favorites. These include C. aeneus, C. paleatus, C. panda, and C. julii. Other species are sometimes bred/imported. All in all, hundreds of species have been named. Feeding: Sinking tablets, black worms, blood worms, algae tablets, brine shrimp (usually by accident), tubifex worms. Notes: Corydoras school in their native environment- I think they all are happier in groups of at least 2, preferably more if you have the space. They fulfill the role of scavenger in community tanks. This does not mean that they will eat fish waste or rotted food. They require food like any other fish, but will often "scavenge" for fresh bits the other fish miss. Compatability: Corydoras are social little creatures. I'd go as far to say that they are compatible with everything save very small fry. They are totally non-agressive, never cause problems or harass tankmates. All in all one of my favorite fish types (if I had to pick). I will never have a tank without two or three Cory's. |
