| The Foot Rule If you're a human owned by a canine (or two... or three...), then this rule is for you! |
| "There is a formula called the Foot Rule used in doggy households t figure out how bed space is allocated. You start by determining the number of feet (as in at the end of legs, not "made up of inches") utilizing the bed. Then you divide that total number of feet by the person(s) or dog(s) in question. So this is how it works. Say you and your significant other share the bed with one canine. Each human has two feet, the dog has four, making a grand total of eight feet. To allot bed space- divide 4 by 8, which gives you 50%, and 2 by 8, which gives you 25%. This means that the dog gets half of the bed to himself, and each human gets only a quarter. We can work it out even more scientifically: in my case, I have five dogs for a total of 20 feet. Then there's me, with two feet, bringing the grand total to 22 feet. This means that I get 1/11th of the beds total area. The remaining 91% of the bed goes to the dogs. To actually allocate an area on the bed to the dogs and human, it gets a bit more complicated. My bed is a king, which is 6 ft x 7 ft. This is a 42 sq. feet area, or 6048 square inches. Now, if I take 1/11th or ~9% of this total area, it will give me the area of the bed that I get to sleep in. So multiply .09 times 42 feet, and you come up with 3.8 sq. feet. Basically this means that I GET THE PILLOW." Recieved through: All Critters Mailing List Thanks to: Lisa D.
