| WHY YOU SHOULDN'T BREED YOUR PET |
| 1. Millions of animals (mostly cats and dogs, but some exotics) are euthanized in the US annually. Simply because there aren't enough homes for them to go to. Many are strays that were dumped on the streets because they didn't meet their owners expectations. Many are from unwanted litters, female dogs and cats who weren't spayed. Still others are feral, have lived their entire lives on the street, never knowing the love that people can give, only the hatred and anger. 2. For the kids. Breeding an animal is not supposed to be an educational experiment. Live animals will be the result. Animals that will need food to eat, medical care and homes to go to. If you want your children to experience the miracle of birth, let them watch the Discovery Channel. 3. Because your pet is so unique, there should be more of her. So is every other animal- including those that meet an untimely end in overcrowded shelters. 4. For the money. Did you know that the vast majority of RESPONSIBLE breeders never make money off of their animals? Most breed purely for the betterment of the breed or species, and because they love what they do. Consider the fact that an average litter of six puppies or kittens will need to be fed and cleaned up after, the mother will need prenatal care, and the young will need their first shots and wormings before they go to their new homes. On average, first shots cost $30-50 EACH. Prenatal care is expensive too. Short of making money, you might end up LOSING money. Save the cash, spay or neuter your pet. |
