The island of Taiwan lies 355 kilometers north of the Philippines, 595 kilometers southwest of Japan's Okinawa, separated from mainland China province of Fujian by the Taiwan Strait 160 kilometers apart. Established as the Republic of China in 1949, Taiwan is one of the Asia countries that remained traditionally unsuccumbed to Westernization.
While in Taipei, do not forget to visit some of the more popular attractions such as the Chiang Kai Shek Cultural Center and Memorial Hall, the Revolutionary Martyrs' Shrine, the National Palace Museum, Taipei 101, Shenkang Tofu Street, and Shihlin Night Market.
Taichung in Central Taiwan is another interesting place to visit. One good place to visit for family fun is the Leofoo Village Theme Park which boasts of game rides, jungle visit and more in the Arabian Kingdom, the Wild West, South Pacific Adventure, and Safari Kingdom. Besides family fun, do not forget to also visit the Lushan Village and Hot Spring, the many strawberry farms, the scenic Sun Moon Lake and its surroundings.
Not to be missed is a visit to Kaohsiung, Taiwan's economic showcase and city of superlatives. Visit Fokuang Shan, which consists of shrine halls surrounded by pavilions and pagodas, bridges and footpaths. A favourite site for photography is a visit to the Spring and Autumn Pavilions. In the evening, visit the 'Love River' for a romantic walk with your partner.
