Spock, son of Sarek, grandson of Skon, was born in the year 2230 in Shi’Kahr, Vulcan. Born of the legendary diplomat Sarek of Vulcan and his human wife Amanda Grayson; Spock was the first human/Vulcan hybrid to ever survive to birth. At the age of seven he was bonded to a young Vulcan female of the same age, by their parents’ arrangement, who would later officially become his wife by Vulcan tradition. However, T’Pring, his betrothed, challenged his claim on her and their bonding was dissolved. In 2249 Spock went against his father’s wishes and enrolled in Starfleet Academy instead of the Vulcan Science Academy. This would cause a dispute between the two that would go unresolved for 18 years; until Sarek’s near-fatal heart attack while on board Spock’s ship would enable the two to see past their differences.
Spock graduated from Starfleet Academy in 2253, and was assigned as a cadet under the command of Captain Christopher Pike, on the USS Enterprise. In 2265, as a lieutenant commander, he was named First Officer of the same ship; but instead served under her new Captain, James T. Kirk. At the end of their mission, in 2269, he retired from Starfleet to return to Vulcan and pursue the Kolinahr discipline – the total eradication of emotion. In 2271 his position was reinstated by the then Admiral Kirk to help defeat the strange V’Ger entity threatening to destroy Earth. After successfully defeating the threat, Spock served another 5 year mission under Kirk, then in 2277 he was promoted to Captain and assigned to Starfleet Academy faculty where he trained cadets using the Enterprise for simulation runs.
In 2285 he relinquished command of the Enterprise back to Admiral Kirk to rescue the Project Genesis team. This mission proved fatal for Spock, as he was killed when he sacrificed himself to repair a plasma conduit in order to allow the Enterprise to escape from the detonation of the Genesis device. His body was consigned to space, where it landed on the now called Genesis planet. Knowing he would die, Spock had mind-melded with Dr. McCoy prior to saving the ship in order to transfer his katra, or living spirit, as is Vulcan custom when their end is near. This will prove fortuitous for Spock, because later it will be learned that his body was regenerated by the Genesis device; and once returned to Vulcan along with his katra the fal-tor-pan was performed by Sarek’s request, bring Spock back to life. His reeducation was overseen largely by his mother, Amanda, who stressed the understanding and acceptance of his human emotions.
Spock resumed his place on the bridge
of the Enterprise – once again as First Officer – for several more years.
As time progressed, however, his interests became more diplomatic than
scientific. While he was still a part of Starfleet he assisted his
father, Ambassador Sarek, by working as a special envoy to the Klingon
government to pave the way for the Kitomer peace talks. Spock retired
from Starfleet and after several decades, in 2368, he secretly traveled
to Romulus on a mission to reunite the Romulan/Vulcan people. Sarek
disapproved of this mission, and the two once again were at odds; but unfortunately
this time it would go unresolved as Sarek died on Vulcan before Spock had
returned from this mission.
