Action Reviews:
THE BIG HIT

It is customary for me to take the time before seeing a movie to read several reviews in order to get a feel for the film. Usually, the worst the reviews are the better the flick tends to be. This indeed was the case with The Big Hit. I was astonished to read one such critique which ended by saying "It really is as though human communication has disintegrated to the point where words have lost objective meaning. If The Big Hit is really the right one or very original, it's time for me to start grunting like an ape and throwing my own feces at the theatre screen. Perhaps these top Hollywood geniuses will then think I'm remarkably creative and pay me millions of dollars to write scripts for them."

I, on the other hand found The Big Hit to be extremely entertaining with its non-stop high-octane action scenes combined with the overall depth and hilarity of the characters. The movie feeds off not so much the plot (a group of contact killers trying to make some extra cash by kidnapping the daughter of a Japanese millionaire who soon realize they've stepped on the toes of the leader of the local crime syndicate and as faith would have it.... THEIR BOSS!!!) as it does the interaction between the characters and the quirky side-bars to an otherwise strait-forward story.

Mark Wahlberg stars as the overly polite yet brutal hit man with an accommodating nature and an overwhelming need to be liked. I fail to see how the subtle irony of a hit man being constantly harassed by an overzealous video clerk (a cross between Rambo and Revenge of the Nerds) demanding the immediate return of an overdue rental is somehow lost to some. Similar story twists dot the landscape of this movie making it unpredictable and well worth watching!
