Is Cloud Computing a Socially Responsible Computing?
1. If the energy spent for computing or running hardware, network etc is more that what it takes to cool the data center – the amount of green house gases produced is even more! When the hardware is distributed – perhaps the cooling requirements would be low.

2. Energy distribution losses would be perhaps minimized when the cloud computing center is next to power generation center.

3. However, it gives a great opportunity for enterprenuers to start and grow with low capital. And yet offer competitive software based features like a large player. Perhaps would bring more economic benefits to the community.

4. In India computer penetration is low, particularly at the bottom of the pyramid. Reason being the high capital cost to buy a PC. However, the TV penetration rate is pretty high. Perhaps if a 3G or an Indicom Photon type of wireless connection can be established with cloud computing providers, the same TV can be a PC as well. The poor kids can do computing and villages can do internet banking with the same TV. With a monthly fee this becomes economical. It will do a lot of good to India. Hence, more socially responsible?
