I. 2. My Introduction to VW’s

My introduction to VW’s started in the ‘60’s during my college days, reading those unpretentious, down-to-earth, catchy VW ads. It was a big contrast to all the other automobile ads. What really made quite an impression on me, were the Karmann Ghia ads, particularly the one comparing the KG to the world’s greatest sports cars such as the Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mercedes Benz, Maserati and Aston Martin. I clipped those ads, had them wood laminated and hang them in my room, to always remind me of my goal: To own one someday.

Since there aren’t many KG’s for sale and those that are for sale are very expensive, it was only in 1981, that I was able to buy my first Karmann Ghia.

Since the 60,s, we in the family have had all sorts of VW’s. My father used to have a ‘59 KG and a ‘72 Variant. My younger brother has a ‘67 KG T3 and a ‘67 Notchback which he sold before migrating to the U.S. My other brothers first car was a brand new 1975 Beetle, which he sold to me later. Previous to my present KG’s, I used to have a ‘61 KG, a ‘66 KG, a ‘67 Fastback and Double Cab Pick-up. The only reason we sell a VW is when we want to upgrade to a more original, more complete, better performing or rarer VW.

The text in the Volkswagen advertisements were proven true by my actual experiences with all sorts of VW’s.
