I. 1. My VW Cars
Presently, I own ten (10) Volkswagens, a 1963 Karmann Ghia Type 3,
People often ask me why I acquire these old model cars, instead of the newer Japanese cars. My reason is that the thrill of owning such classics adds to my motoring enjoyment.
I value cars for other than utilitarian purposes, but I demand utility. I like to own contemporary classics, yet it should be practical enough for daily transportation if I wanted to. Such are the Volkswagen Karmann Ghias.
I use my ‘63 KG only for VW shows and Bug-runs. It is garaged in a portion of our living room. As for my ‘73 KG, I only bring it out to Volkswagen club meetings and activities or places where I am assured that I can watch over it. I avoid bringing it to crowded places or drive through traffic congested streets. I would rather take public transportation rather than risk having the car scratched, dented or stolen of badges, insignias or trim. Accessories: Custom after-market. air conditioner, engine lid mounted luggage rack, Hurst shifter, Cosmic magwheels, Bosch rear fog lamp.
My VW 411 is still in the restoration process. It is so hard to obtain parts for this car. Luckily, the car is complete. I just had the brake system overhauled. I just need to bleed them.
I acquired my '67 Beetle last June 6, 1997 from a fellow club member. It is in pretty good condition, almost complete and with the right '67 parts & accessories. It has an EMPI steering wheel, an optional external oil cooler, a Z-bar, and a Solex 2-carb set-up. It has an aftermarket air-conditioner. I chose a '67 because numerous parts are for that year model only. I find it challenging to restore and maintain Note: I no longer own this car. I sold it to a lady VW enthusiast..
I acquired my Westfalia Campmobile about September 1999. Except for the pop top, it has all the fixtures and provisions of the camper. It is in pretty good shape. I have started the restoration process already.
I acquired a 1974 Sakbayan (a contraction of Sasakyang Bayan - Pilipino language for Peoples Vehicle) that is in preserved condition. These model year is considered the best because it has the five lug wheels, IRS and the engine case is for the Thing.
Last month (June, 2001) I acquired one of the first models (low serial number) of VW Brasilia, a 2-door Brasilia also in very good condition.
In 2003, I acquired a '73 Type III Fastback. This is the 2003 VWCP Best of Show winner. It was formerly owned by my nephew, who did the 100% restoration. Accessories: EMPI steering wheel, EMPI shifter, factory air con, Cosmic mag wheels, EMPI wooden knobs set, Bosch rear fog lamp.
In, 2004, I bought a 1968 Beetle. This is the 2003 VWCP Best Super Stock Winner. It was formerly owned by my nephew who made the restoration. Accessories: roof rack, American Racing mag wheels, padded dash, radio
Recently, I acquires a 1957 (based on the chassis and engine serial numbers} Beetle with the original 1100 engine. It won Best Super Stock in the Los Banos VWCP mid year show. Accessories: roof rack, AM/FM radio, Bosch Fog lamps, Bosch reversing lamp, Bosch chromed twin horn, steering wheel lock
