The members of the VW Club of the Philippines are fully aware of the potential of the Volkswagen. They take pride in owning cars with the technical and historical background as taken into account below.

In some ways, the history of VW racing parallels the history of the company itself. A few dedicated men believed that components from this funny looking car could be the base for a competitive racing car. They were right.

The Formula Vee class is the most successful racing formula and the largest racing class in the world. Formula Vee racing cars are based on the 1200 cc VW engine, drive train and suspension. The concept for such a racer was simple - an economical, open wheeled, racing class that stresses driving skills over mechanical or financial resources.

Recently, Kafer Cup and Super Cup racing has been organized in Germany. It is a full-fledged racing series dedicated solely to Type I’s. It revolves around the most loved and best selling car in the world, the Beetle or Bug. The exterior is almost identical to its millions of brothers, but its interior is a pure-bred racing machine. The races show the disbelievers the strength of our beloved flat-fours.

Other VW racing cars include drag racers, midget racers, which run on small dirt tracks; and off-road racers, like Baja Bugs and VW Things, which run the grueling desert races.

Because of the VW engineering’s appeal to auto enthusiast, aftermarket parts manufacturers have developed performance racing products and custom accessories exclusively for VW’s.

The Volkswagen is still the cheapest car to modify for competition.
