I woke to the sound of tires hissing in the wet street, and thinking "Oh no! I wish it would rain on my gym days and leave sunshine for Tuesdays and Thursdays when I need to walk." Yesterday, when I went for my workout, it was a gorgeous day.
But somehow the rain, in its own way, drew me outside this morning. There's some magic about carrying a black umbrella. And when I got home and hung it over the door handle, the droplets of water looked like stars glistening against darkness. While the sky is grey, down here in my room I have, for a few minutes, an expanse of clear night sky to transport me.
I've felt lots of inspiration lately. I have my friends to thank. And Sunday afternoon I went with Martin, Daniel and Sylvie to see the two competing Guelph artists' studio tours. Seeing the work of other people always motivates me and injects ideas. I've had some encouraging responses lately to my coloured pencil drawings. In fact some of them can now be viewed on the Artists' Liaison website. You can see my gallery here.
So with all this encouragement I'm trying to do more drawings, like this one, "Autumn birches," which I did last night (this scan is roughly actual size). Maybe I'll still realize the dream of doing an exhibition sometime.
