You can get a CD player starting around $250. In most cases you're going
to get more if you pay more, but may I suggest stepping down a little on
your source and getting some better speakers. Pioneer makes some
excellent CD players. What I normally suggest to people who post to this
group with questions like yours is that you pick up the phonebook and
pick 5 car audio shops. Take a bag of popcorn and a note pad and tell
everysales person you meet that you don't plan to buy a thing today.
Look at all the CD players in your price range, collect all the
literature you can and take notes.

As for speakers, what I and many others will suggest is that you get a
pair of components. Several manufacuters like Rockford, Blaupunkt,
Clarion, Stillwater Design (Kicker), JBL (I like these), etc., make entry
level componet systems that will set you back under $200. While your
auditioning your CD player listen to the components as well.

After your day of listening go home and look over what you collected.
Take some time and consideration in making your decision, it's your money
and your music.

Hope this helps,
Victor Albert
