First of all I would like to thank everyone who participated (e-mail &
post) in this tread. It was my intention to gather some informatoin
about the topic to add to my ever-under-construction web site.

Ironically, four (4) days after I posted the original article, my car was
broken into and they stole my head. Kenwoods top-o-the line dual shaft
model. Why I chose this deck is another story, which other Tempo owner
might relate to.

Yes, I live in Portland. From what I've been told by the police after
the first two break-ins is that this city has the highest rate in the
country. As Mr. Hoots pointed out, there are just to many incedences(sp)
of this for them to even try to "investigate". For those keeping score,
my car has now been broken into 3 times since February of 1993.

Let me tell you my situation and I would appreciate comments on what I
could do to stop these unwanted intrusion.

I own a 1984 Ford Tempo. The usual, very breakable locks in both the
doors and the drunk. I live in Kansas for two years (military station,
not by choice) so the windows are tinted, except for the one that was
broken. In order to gain some handling in this pathetic excuse for a
driving machine, I replaced the tires and also the rims. The rims are
now nice shiny chrome jobbies. The car's exterior is as clean as I can
keep it in Portland and the interior is free from theft attracting stuff
and vaccumed every once in a while.

This gives you an example of what the car looks like. Now where do I
live.

I live in a 16 story apartment building in downtown Portland. Of course,
I live on the 16th floor. Due to the scarcity of parking and the hours
I work, I often park one block away from the building. The streets are
lighted on every corner, however, there are many trees in the
neighborhood providing a dazzeling array of shadows yon and hither. The
police do partol, but to be honest the last time I saw a cop in the
neighborhood was the time my brother was visiting and we were cleaning up
the mess the thieves left when, about 8:30am, we discovered his car had
been broken into. (Imagine that) Not to mention, I got a flyer from a
nearby apartment manager stating that 35% of the tenants in his building
have had they car broken into in the past 6 months.

If I were to put an alarm on my car, it would never wake me up. I never
play the system loud in my neighborhood for obvious reasons, so this
isn't a problem. Obviously my car is a PRIME candidate for breaking and
entering. I cannot move because I'm a poor student living in student
housing, (EE for those who must know). I have had a passion for car
stereo ever since my friend Mike first hooked up those Technique 6x9's
to his Pyramid EQ booster and Sanyo tape deck <sniff>, way back in '85.
Add to that a certified IASCA judge and you can see that I will never,
never, never give up car stereo. (As an aside, I my girlfriend is fond
of hearing me tell her that I love her more than car stereo, which I
guess is mostly true. ;)

Currently the car is mostly devoid of stereo. It used to consist of the
aforementioned deck, Vifa twts, Kicker 3.5 MR, Orion 6.5" MB, Kenwood
tri-axs for rear fill (no I havn't bandpass'd 'em yet), Sony XM-4045 for
the fronts and a PG MPS-2240 for the two Orion XTR DVC 10's all
paralell in a ported enclosure.

Everything except the deck, the MR and the rear fill currently reside in
my apt. This WILL go back into the car someday and when it does...

how the hell am I going to keep it there?

Input, suggestions, comments, insults (only a few please, this is an
emotional time) and good'ole cash are welcome.

Thanks for taking the time to read all this,
Victor Albert
