Hi! If I were you, I'd start by doing some reading. Here are some
recommendations (in order)

* Learn To Earn (Peter Lynch & John Rothchild)
* Beating The Street (Peter Lynch)
* One Up On Wall Street (Peter Lynch)
* No Load Stocks (Charles Carlson)
* Periodicals such as Money, Kiplinger's, etc.

Your best bet is to acquire some education from the sources listed above
and make sure that you understand whatever security you put your money
into. Also look into mutual fund rankings published by Money earlier this
year. Great sources of information online include http:\\networth.galt.com
and http:\\www.morningstar.net

If you're planning on investing in stocks/mutual funds, here are some
questions that you need to answer yourself :

* What is the goal of this investment(s) ?
* What is the time horizon ?
* What is your risk tolerance (i.e. if a great stock you're holding goes
through up and downs, will that give you sleepless nights and/or ulcers) ?

Hope this helps.
Cheers.
