Recumbent Tandem Bicycle Project
This tandem was constructed mostly from the parts of two Belik recumbent bicycles. These were a Belik Jet Stream and a Belik Gust Tandem. The construction is a bolted aluminum design using an aluminum beam as the main structural component. My son Jeremy did the initial rebuild and I've since been tweaking it. It's still a work in progress. Jeremy and I rode it in the Cajun Cyclists Century. My son Aaron and I are using it to train for the Houston to Austin MS 150 ride.

The Belik recumbents were designed and produced by Jaroslav Belik of Houston, Texas, several years ago. I bought two of these bikes and enjoyed them through the years. The Belik design was an aluminum grooved beam, 1.5 x 1.5 inches, that accommodated components that would clamp or bolt on. This lends itself to great creativity. For my design, I wanted a stronger, longer length of beam, so I used a 6160 Aluminum beam, 1.5 x 3.0 inches, 6.5 feet long. The Belik Jet Stream components make up most of the rear of the tandem, while the front of the Belik Gust Tandem was used with little modification. The front 16 inch wheel has a drum brake. The rear 20 inch wheel has a 3x7 Sachs hub.
