Malino II must be bolsteredby presidential decree
Ambon - The 11-point Malino II accord on Maluku reached in Malino, South Sulawesi,
on February 12, needs to be bolstered by Presidential Decree for a legal binding
effect, chairman of the National Student Movement (GMNI), Ambon chapter, Benhur G
Watubun said.
On the sidelines of the 48th anniversary of GMNI here on Saturday, he said a
Presidential Decree would be an urgent need as various irresponsible groups and
individuals had been trying to foul the increasingly conducive security situation.
Benhur, flanked by some key functionaries of the organization, also pointed out that
the government`s efforts to bring about lasting peace in Maluku by facilitating the
Malino II negotiations took the form of restoring sovereignty and social justice for the
people, both Moslem and Christian alike, in this region.
