Chapter Ten
Alyssa
I packed my bag into the car and headed to the school. The show was officially starting at 7:00 but everyone in the show had to be there early to set up. I arrived at the auditorium and saw my classmates all unpacking and setting up their boards. I found my board and began arranging everything and stepped back to double check everything was in place. The only thing missing was my name plate that was to go on the top of the board. I hung it up and teacher came over.
“Need any help Ms. Jones?” she asked.
“No thanks. I’m just about finished.” I said.
“Very well.” She replied.
And with that the teacher left. I noticed one of my pictures was starting to fall so I went to fix it. As I was putting the last staple on the board I heard a familiar voice.
“Wow Alyssa. This is really good.”
“Thanks Justin.” I said stepping back so he could see the whole thing.
“I have to admit, when we were driving to all those places I didn’t except the project to look like this. This is really great.” Justin said.
“Well, honestly, I didn’t know what I was going to do until I got all the photos developed. After that everything just came together.” I said.
We were silent for a few moments and then Trinity and Wade came.
“Hey!” Trin said.
“It’s about time you got here.” I said.
They both complimented my project and shortly after that the gang arrived. I showed them around and we looked at some of my friend’s boards. A few hours later after the show ended we all went out to a restaurant.
“I didn’t know you were so into photography.” Lance said.
“Really, I mean that was one awesome…what do you call it?” Chris asked.
“A board.” I said.
“Right.” Chris said. “How did you do it?”
“An artist never tells.” I said.
“I thought that was a magician’s motto.” Joey said.
“Now it’s mine too.” I said.
“Seriously, how did you do it? Where did you get all the pictures?” JC asked.
“That’s something only I know and you’ll never find out.” I said jokingly.
“I know how you did it.” Justin said.
“How would you know?” Wade asked.
“I was there.” Justin said.
“Yeah, right.” Lance said.
“Alyssa, aren’t you going to tell him off?” Hannah asked.
“Why?” I questioned.
“He just said he was alone with you somewhere to do your project.” Chris said.
“He wasn’t there when I was working on it, but he was there when I took the pictures.” I said.
Wade and Trinity nodded. Apparently Trinity didn’t tell them about the day Justin and I took the pictures. We finished dinner and everyone went home.
Three days later…
“Alyssa!” Trinity said frustrated.
“What?!” I asked annoyed.
“I can’t believe you still haven’t told Justin. I mean you had a perfect chance the day of the art show.” Trin said.
“Whatever.” I said going to my room.
Trin had been on my case about telling Justin that I liked him. Trinity was still mumbling when the phone rang.
“It’s for you.” Trinity shouted.
I picked up the phone.
“Hello? I got it Trin.” I said.
Trinity hung up the phone.
“Hey.” Justin said.
“Hey. What’s up?” I asked.
“Nothing, it’s just that I haven’t talked to you in a few days.” He said.
“Yeah, I’ve been busy with school.” I said.
“Want to take a break?” he asked.
“What do you mean?” I questioned.
“I don’t know. Maybe go somewhere and hang out for awhile. You know, get away from school stuff.” He replied.
“Sure, I’ll see if Trinity is free.” I said.
“Actually, I was thinking it could be just you and me. Not like a date or anything, just like…um…” Justin said.
“Like the day you helped me with my project?” I ventured.
“Yeah, like that.” He said.
“Okay.” I answered.
I hung up the phone and went looking for Trin. I found her in her room.
“Trin, I’m going out.” I said.
“With Justin?!” she asked excitedly.
“Yes. But we’re just going to the mall. Nothing big, so don’t get excited.” I said.
“You still aren’t going to tell him?” she asked.
“I will. Quit rushing me!” I said.
About a half an hour later Justin came to pick me up.
“So, how’s school?” he asked.
“Good, hey! You missed the turn to the mall.” I said.
“That’s okay. I kinda wanted to go somewhere else.” He said.
“Oh, okay.” I replied.
We drove on in silence and eventually ended up at the beach. We got out and found a place to sit. We were silent and I started to space out when Justin spoke up.
“Alyssa, I really like you and I know that you don’t like me. I was just wondering why.” He said.
“It’s not that I don’t like you. It’s just…” I started.
“Whoa, wait a minute.” You mean you have liked me this whole time but instead of telling me you throw me in the pool, drop your bowling ball in my lap, and dump popcorn on my head?” Justin asked confused.
“Okay, so maybe I did some not so nice thing to you, but I was trying to get you to stop liking me.” I said.
“Why?” he asked.
“Because I’ve heard you talk about all those girls you have in each city. I don’t want to be a girl added to your very long list.” I said.
“You mean that you believe all that stuff the guys say about me having many women?” he asked.
I nodded.
“You shouldn’t believe it. It’s all guy talk. Joey would say he had like four girls after him and well said similar things. For some reason they believed me.” He explained.
I looked Justin in the eye to see if he was telling the truth.
“How do I know you’re telling the truth?” I asked.
“Why would I be trying so hard to get you if I already had a waiting list of girls?” he asked.
I thought for a minute.
“If you call all those lame pick up lines trying hard…” I started.
“So you believe me?” he asked.
“Yes, unless you do something to make me believe otherwise.” I said.
“Does this mean you’ll finally go out with me?” he asked.
“I guess I mean I’ve already thrown you in the water so…there’s really nothing else I can torture you with here.” I said jokingly.
“Ha, ha.” Justin said sarcastically. “Are you serious about going out with me?”
“Yes, I will go out with you.” I said.
Justin smiled and grabbed my hand and we walked together up the beach.
