Chapter One

2006

“Deanne!” Dan Miller called out as he walked into the house he shared with his fiancé Deanne Hardy. “Are you here?”

“In the living room.” She called back, her voice sounding muffled.

“You’ll never believe…are you okay?” he asked looking at Deanne’s tear-stained cheeks.

Deanne shook her head and Dan pulled her into an embrace.

“What happened?” he asked.

“The DJ cancelled.” She muttered.

“Excuse me?”

“The DJ cancelled.”

“That’s what I thought you said.”

Deanne pulled back from Dan a bit.

“Now what are we going to do?”

“Hire another one?”

“The wedding is three months away! Who will we find on such short notice?!”

“Okay baby, you need to calm down, it’s not the end of the world.”

“I know, but I’m just so overwhelmed…any little thing seems to be setting me off.”

“I thought Jennifer and Alexis were helping you.” Dan said referring to Deanne’s best friends.

“Jennifer had a doctor’s appointment, that kid is going to pop out any day now I swear, and Matt had to work so Alexis drove her.”

“Well, there can’t be that much left to do.”

Deanne gave him a look.

“Riight, nothing at all. Not only do we need a new DJ the florist called and he’s not sure if the flowers I wanted will be available because of the drought in Mississippi or something. Then the bakery I originally wanted to use isn’t able to fit us in. And don’t even get me started on bridesmaid dresses.”

“Deanne you’re going to hyperventilate.”

Deanne fell back on the couch.

“Maybe running away to get married wasn’t such a terrible idea.”

Dan laughed and sat down next to her. Deanne immediately scooted closer to him and rested her head on his shoulder.

“You said you always wanted a fairy tale wedding.”

“So when does happily ever after come in?”
