“Making the Band” Season 3: Episode #1

I decided to give a recap of the first episode of this season. I’ve added a little humor to this recap so if you’re going to be offended DO NOT READ THIS RECAP! You have been warned. (In case you’re confused….Ash:Ashley, Jacko: Jacob (this is a reference to Michael Jackson, I’m NOT making fun of him! Well…nevermind) T-Rev: Trevor, E-Squared: Erik, and I call Dan, Dan.)

We start out with a little recap of last season and then go into the new stuff. Mike Morin is holding a meeting with the guys. Apparently they have been offered a spot as the opening act on Britney Spears’ new tour. T-Rev practically has a heart attack. Guess he’s a bit of a Brit fan. Ash is surprised at this opportunity and thinks it’s a good idea. Jacko does what he does best….complains. (I can’t believe it’s only 8:02 and Jacko’s already managed to annoy me.) He feels if they were able to headline two American tours they shouldn’t have to take a step back. I find it strange that as soon as Jacko says this Ash is all like “Maybe we shouldn’t.” Does he fear him or something? Then again I am afraid of Jacko’s angst so maybe Ash is in the right. Dan and Erik think it’s a good move and T-Rev continues to splurge all over the place so I’m guessing his vote is yes. T-Rev tells all the guys watching he’s going to do it for them…whatever “it” may be I’m not sure. Jacko says as long as he can play music he’ll do it. Jacko explains that he understands if the guys are going to move forward this step back is necessary.

Now we’re at rehearsal with the guys choreographer Ed. Ed is telling the guys about Brit’s tour. Her sound is completely different from O-Town’s sound (it is?) and they are going to have to work really hard to make people remember their performance after the concert is over. Ash tells us they need to work hard and get people to notice them. (Didn’t we just hear this?) The guys have a week to pull this all together. T-Rev continues to babble on about how he loves Brit for 5 reasons. (She fine. She damn fine. She fine. She’s pretty fine. She’s hot….or something along those lines.)

Back to rehearsal. The guys are practicing “Take Me Under.” (MMM Tasty!!) They basically want the moves to be cleaner. Then comes a humorous sequence of them dancing, Ed throwing Jacko around, and T-Rev riding an invisible horse. Cut to a helicopter and the song “All or Nothing” in the background. Then we find Dan on his cell phone…screaming about something and doing strange dance moves. (I was scared, but Dan is hot so…..) Suddenly it all makes sense, the guys have been nominated for a Radio Music Award for “All or Nothing.” Then they talk about how important it is to be on the radio and get your music out there. (At least they didn’t explain how the radio works like last time.) Jacko complains that he doesn’t want to go to the award show. All the other guys really want to go to the show, but Jacko continues to whine. T-Rev says they should go and they can just do extra rehearsals next week. I guess their last tour went the same way…they had very little practice and still pulled it off. This leads to a whole lotta fighting….Yea! There’s the O-Town we know and love! T-Rev wants to go to Vegas because he feels it’s a good idea….and he wants to play craps. Ash feels it will be good promotion.

We’re in Vegas baby! Dan reminisces about last year’s Radio Mega Blast. Last year no one cared about those “Making the Band” guys and this year it was all about O-Town! Dan seems excited about this, therefore so am I. Go Mega Blast! They go around to the different tables and promote themselves. They even sing an acapella version of “We Fit Together.” Damn! They actually sound good….they finally can harmonize!

Now we’re on the bus and the other Mike is blabbing about something. Because his voice is a cross between someone from Boston and someone who rides the short bus O-Town, with the rest of America, gives a collective “Huh?” Apparently he was talking about what the RMA looks like. Suddenly Doc Holliday (Hey! What happened to Marc? I miss him!) is all like “You’re going to win…bla-bla…” Then they start practicing what they will say if they win. It’s time to go to the show and T-Rev is wiping his eyebrows or something…scary. Doc is still yapping about how their going to win. Now we’re at the show and Destiny’s Child is announcing the nominees. Proceed to see funny clips of Ash and T-Rev hoping they win. Just as their about to announce the winner….commercial? (Dude! That was so not cool!) Okay, we’re back. The winner is….Lady Marmalade. Everyone is disappointed and Doc is still blabbing about how he thought they were going to win. Now we’re in a hotel and the reanimated body of Clive Davis is telling them not to feel bad. They should feel honored to be nominated. (The guys don’t seem to be buying this…Oh! I’ll comfort you Dan!!!)

Back to rehearsals….nothing too exciting here. Why is Ash’s hair so light? Hmm….and then something amazing happens Jacko speaks and I agree with him! He says he likes to be as good as possible before the first show. Thank you Jacko. See boys! Practicing is a good thing.

Now we’re at an arena. Apparently E-Squared has never seen an arena before because T-Rev has to tell him it’s an arena. Then T-Rev starts yapping about meeting Brit. The guys are actually pleased with the stage and excited about all the seats in the arena. Here is one of the two humorous things Ash says in this episode: “Everywhere I turn there’s another seat!” Apparently when the boys were on their state fair tour there were no seats?

AHHH!!! Time to meet Brit! Quick someone get a mop! T-Rev is getting so excited he’s wetting himself! (I guess I shouldn’t be making fun of good ol’ T-Rev…if I got to meet O-Town I’d probably be very excited.) She walks in and introduces herself and T-Rev hugs her and is like “You fine.” Brit apparently is flattered by this and gives her standard “You’re so sweet” response. Then they tell a story about how T-Rev tried to call Brit once…they call it the “Big Rob Story” and I have no idea why. During the story Brit makes squeaky noises and odd faces. (At this point I’m laughing hysterically…not because of the story but because of T-Rev’s shirt. It says: “It’s only funny until someone gets hurt and then it’s hilarious.” That sounds like something I would say.) T-Rev then apologizes to all the guys he let down because he chumped out. Whatever you say T-Rev.

It’s showtime! The guys are excited about performing and say the crowd isn’t as overwhelming as it seems because they can’t see half the audience. (See you crazy fans out there who are all like “He’s waving directly at me.” He can’t even see you!!!) Anyone ever wonder why E-Squared and Ash make strange hand gestures during “We Fit Together”? No? Guess it’s just me. Now it’s time for the other humorous Ash moment. “I’m kicking ass. I look over at Erik and Erik’s kicking ass. Look over at Trevor. How’s Trevor doing? He’s kicking ass. Look over at Dan. Dan’s up hyping the crowd like he does. Dan’s kicking ass. Look over at Jacob. I know Jacob’s kicking ass. I don’t even have to look at Jacob. O-Town’s up kicking ass.” Wild applause….the audience likes O-Town! (Of course they do, their a bunch of girls and O-Town is full of hot guys.)

What a fine episode. They managed to get me upset by 8:02. Now that’s what I call the beginning of a great season! (Hey, in the preview for this season they show Janie kissing Jacko. PHYSICAL CONTACT HAS BEEN MADE!! Also, why is Shelli back, I thought we got rid of her.)
