“Making the Band” Season 3: Episode #2

Once again, I’ve added a little humor to this recap so if you’re going to be offended DO NOT READ THIS RECAP! There are plenty of sites that give just straight recaps. You have been warned. (In case you’re confused….Ash:Ashley, Jacko: Jacob (this is a reference to Michael Jackson, I’m NOT making fun of him! Well…nevermind) T-Rev: Trevor, E-Squared: Erik, and I call Dan, Dan.)

This week’s episode was not as exciting as last week’s because I had no motivation to scream at the TV but alas here goes. We start with a clip of the guys performing on Brit’s tour. After the performance the guys are backstage talking about how well they thought they did. Dan assumes that when Mike Morin comes backstage he’ll have something negative to say since the guys all thought the show went well. Low and behold Mike comes backstage and says the choreography was off. The guys and the Mikes watch a tape of the performance and Jacko points out all the mistakes. (Figures…sorry) The best part of the entire episode, in my opinion, was when they showed Ash prancing across the stage. (It reminds of Rumplestilsken. If you’ve watched Live from New York you probably know what I mean.) All the guys make fun of Ash, but he’s all like “That can be my signature move. I’ll call it the happy dance.” (My friends and I call it the “prancing pony.” heehee) Anyway, when the guys get back to Orlando they are going to have extra practices with Ed. (I wonder what happened to their first choreographer Raymond. That guy was something else.)

Now we’re on the bus and Boston Mike is talking. I have the hardest time understanding the man, but I got the basic idea. A radio station in Orlando is having a contest where guys can audition for the chance to hang out with O-Town for a week and then be a part of a showcase. Five finalists have been picked and the guys will have to choose the winner. Boston Mike says it will probably interfere with rehearsals but he believes the promotion is a good idea. Oh my God, Jacko says he thinks it’s a good idea. He’s all like “Now I can tell someone they are a lab rat.” (Remember that episode when that guy, I think his name was Mark, was all calling Jacko a lab rat? That was grand.) Then E-Squared is like I can say “That sucked.” Then he makes a motion with his hand and snaps his fingers. Funny stuff.

Now we’re in Orlando and the guys are sitting down waiting for the finalists to perform. (Why is T-Rev wearing a visor? Vegas was last week dude!) All the guys talk about how this is a total role reversal and we see a flashback of T-Rev’s first audition. (His hair was so short!) Here come the finalists. First up is Paul, a 19-year-old real estate…something. He is singing “Liquid Dreams” and he is sooo nervous. Plus he’s reading the words off a card. Jacko tells us it’s okay to be nervous, but you’ve got to learn to control it. (Is that like harnessing you chi? Just wondering.) Next is Jason an 18-year-old kid who’s goal in life is to be famous. He’s a pretty decent dancer. Third is JD, a 24-year-old guy who works at an animation studio. (OMG!! He looks so familiar. He reminds me of someone and I can’t figure out who!! This bugged me throughout the entire episode.) JD sings “All or Nothing.” He is holding the words in his hands, but he still screws up. Fourth is Michael, a 21-year-old college student. He’s okay…nothing exciting. (Can anyone figure out what Dan’s shirt says?) Last is Scott, a 23-year-old who works as a performer at Disney World. (Hmm..does that sound familiar to anyone else?) After the little audition O-Town debates. They feel all the guys were good in their own way. They all reminisce about their auditions and we see clips from the first season. The guys seem to like JD. Jacko feels that JD has the most experience with music….because it’s all about the music according to Jacko. Then we see the finalists trying to figure out what the guys were looking for. Back to O-Town. They felt Scott was an all-around good performer. (Clips of Scott really getting into the dance moves.) Ash points out that he was the only one who got close to the guys. (A little too close if you ask me.) The final announcement is about to be made and the winner is…COMMERCIAL!

We’re back. Jacko is all like “We know what you’re going through.” Bla-bla-bla. Another flashback of when the final eight were picked. The winner is JD. He’s very excited and he can’t believe they chose him. Now a nifty little graphic rolls across the screen….Life With O-Town. JD goes to the compound and the boys welcome him with open arms. (Literally) Now we’re at rehearsals. Hey! It’s my main man Ed! (Why does this footage look like the same stuff they showed last week? I mean they are wearing the exact same clothes and Jacko has on the sunglasses and Ash’s hair is lighter again and T-Rev is riding the invisible pony. Who edits this stuff?) They guys are practicing and somehow Jacko ends up on the floor and can’t get up. Then Jacko talks about how much help these extra rehearsals are. JD is just kinda chilling in the back…probably because he really wasn’t there!!

Now we’re in the kitchen. Eating what else but… CEREAL!! JD is talking to E-Squared and a shirtless Jacko. (I’m going to keep my mouth shut…I don’t wanna say something I’ll regret.) JD asks if the guys noticed the group of fans that was outside the rehearsal the other day. Clip of JD talking to the girls. The girls claim they are “fans” and not “teeny-boppers.” (I believe the correct term here is stalker!) Then the girls explain the difference between a “fan” and a “teeny-bopper.” Then JD asks E-Squared and Jacko if they meet a lot of pretty girls. Jacko says he has to leave and E-Squared babbles about something. Now JD’s talking to Ash. Ash asks if JD’s parents are cool with the whole music thing. JD says his Dad is kinda leery. Ash tells JD his Dad is the same way. Now Dan and JD are eating lunch together. (Are they at Panera’s? It looks like it to me.) JD asks Dan if it was hard coming into the group last. Dan said it was. He tells JD it was only his second day in the group and he was already preaching to them. (And for this I am forever grateful!! I love you Dan!) He says everything between him and the guys is all good now.

Now we’re in a locker room. Someone asks what time rehearsal starts and T-Rev is like “I never know when rehearsals start.” (Is he proud of that or something?) T-Rev is changing his clothes and putting on a sleeveless shirt. (Thank God. It seemed like he was always wearing sleeveless clothes and then all of a sudden he stopped. I’m glad he’s back to his old ways.) Then Dan asks JD if he should be at their rehearsal or practicing for the showcase. JD says he’s ready for the showcase. Ash asks JD what he’s singing and he says a song called “Do You Dream of Me?” Ash tells JD to sing a little of it and he does. Then Ash tells JD the importance of good breathing. Flashback to Marc (Yea!) yelling at the guys and having them practice keeping a piece of paper up on the wall. T-Rev and JD have a breathing competition. During the middle of it JD and T-Rev start pushing each other and JD wins.

During rehearsal JD gets a call from his boss. JD talks for awhile and then we find out he got fired. Then JD is talking to the guys and he’s like “Your rehearsal schedule is crazy.” T-Rev is all like “When this is over you can go back to your normal schedule.” JD tells them that’s not possible because he got fired. The guys are shocked, but reassure him that music is in his future. E-Squared was impressed by his sacrifice. Now we’re backstage with Brit. Then Brit leaves and JD didn’t meet her. Jacko yells at him and tells him “That was unacceptable.” (Riiight.) E-Squared comes back and said he talked to Brit’s assistant and he can meet her. JD walks to the doorway and Brit is in the hallway. We hear her say “Hi, nice to meet you” and then she leaves. Then Jacko says JD shouldn’t set anymore goals for himself because he’ll never be that lucky. (Umm..okay.)

The guys are performing “Sensitive” and JD is in the audience watching. T-Rev feels that this was a good performance. Now it’s the next day and Dan is asking the Mikes if they are coming to JD’s showcase. Their like “No.” But Dan tells them they should come and they agree to. (Why are the camera angles so weird in this shot? I feel like I’m trying to look up Dan’s nose.) Now it’s showtime. This DJ guy welcomes everyone and introduces O-Town. (Why does Jacko insist on wearing bandanas? They make him look like he has a beehive.) Ash explains the contest and then introduces JD. JD sings and says he’s very nervous and his hands are sweating. Cut to the Mikes looking bored backstage. The audience doesn’t look too excited. (I’m thinking this is because they just came to see O-Town and really don’t care about JD.) All the boys say they are happy for JD. (It’s still bothering me. He reminds me of someone!) The Mikes sit JD down and say they would like to work with him. (Didn’t see that coming!) JD is very grateful for this entire opportunity.

It’s JD’s last day. He’s saying good-bye to the guys. JD’s all like “I know all your songs now.” E-Squared asks if he knows the choreography and JD says no. Then Jacko says “Well, neither does Ashley.” (heehee. That was pretty humorous.) JD still can’t believe what happened. The boys board the bus and drive away.

Next week…. The boys have two days off and are going to some cabin in Utah. The Mikes say they can invite “special friends.” Then we see Shelli (ewww) and I believe Janie, I’m not sure. Then someone is like “Trevor has two women.” And then we see Ash, T-Rev, and some ladies in a hot tub and T-Rev is all like “This is so humiliating.”

Thanks for reading my recap. Please send me feedback…I’d really appreciate it. Oh wait!!! I finally figured out who JD reminds of me! It only took me 150 years. Have any of you ever watched the show “Popular”? JD reminds me of the guys who played Josh. Yea! Now I can sleep easier. Anyway, until next week…
