Chapter Three-Take My Breath Away

“This is so not going to work.” Felicity mumbled to herself.

She still couldn’t believe she agreed to this stupid plan. Gwyneth assured her that this would work out.

Somehow that wasn’t very comforting.

Felicity looked out the window and saw Lance’s car pull up.

“Here goes nothing.” She said.

Felicity gathered some papers off her desk and then grabbed a few file folders. She waited a few moments until she saw Lance headed toward the entrance.

Felicity opened the door to exit the building just as Lance was stepping inside. Acting like she didn’t see him Felicity purposely walked into him dropping all her papers.

“Oh my God!” she exclaimed, hoping she didn’t sound too rehearsed. “Are you okay?”

Lance got to his feet. “I’m fine. Are you?”

“Yeah, I’ll be fine. Could you…” she started.

“Oh sorry.” Lance said taking her hand and helping her up.

“Thanks.” Felicity said. “I’m really sorry. I should have been paying attention.”

“Don’t worry about it. Need some help?” he asked indicating the papers on the floor.

Felicity shook her head. “I don’t want to make you late.”

“It’s okay. This was partially my fault anyway.” Lance said helping Felicity collect all the papers.

“Thank you.” She said.

Lance nodded. “Well, I’d better get up to the studio.”

“Okay. Again, I’m really sorry.” She said.

“It’s alright. Bye.” He told her.

Felicity walked back to her desk and before she could even sit down the phone rang.

“Jive Records.” She said.

“So? Did it work?” Gwyneth asked.

Felicity could practically see her salivating. “I just ‘bumped’ into him five seconds ago. I think I may have to wait a bit for more concrete results.”

“No need for attitude. If it wasn’t for me you’d be living on the streets right now. Well, you at least talked to him right?” she asked.

“Yes I did.” Felicity replied.

“Good. Ready for part two?” she asked.

“As ready as I’ll ever be.” Felicity said.

*****

“You okay there Lance?” Justin asked.

“What?” Lance said startled.

“I was asking if you were okay, you seem a bit out of it.” Justin said.

Lance debated whether he wanted to tell Justin what was on his mind.

“Earth to Lance.” Justin said waving his hand in front of Lance’s face.

“Well…” Lance started taking a deep breath. “It’s about a girl.”

“Always is.” Justin replied.

“Did Lance say something about a girl?” JC asked sitting down next to Justin.

“A girl where?” Joey asked.

“What about a girl?” Chris questioned.

Lance put his head in his hands. “Why do I open my mouth?”

“Ohhh…so it is about a girl.” JC said.

“Leave the boy alone. I don’t remember inviting any of you into the conversation.” Justin said.

“Lance doesn’t mind. Do you Lance?” Chris asked.

“Justin would probably blab to y’all anyway.” Lance said.

“So?” Joey prompted.

“I bumped into this girl today and she was kinda cute.” Lance said.

“Ohhh…so what’d you say to her?” JC asked.

“I’m sorry.” Lance replied.

“I’m sorry?” Justin asked with confusion in his voice.

“I literally bumped into her. So I had to apologize.” Lance said.

“Nice play Shakespeare.” Chris said.

“I think she works here or something. She looked really familiar.” Lance said ignoring Chris.

“Interesting…a cutie in this very building.” Justin said. “So what are you going to do if you see her again?”

“I’m not really sure.” Lance said.

“I say you should ask her out.” JC said. “You deserve a nice girl.”

“Amen to that.” Justin echoed.
