Chapter Five- On the Line

Later that week…

“Are you serious?” Natalie asked.

“Yes. Justin Timberlake is not the ego-case we thought he was.” Felicity said.

Natalie shook her head. “Amazing. I can’t believe he’s actually a nice guy. I figured he was the male equivalent of Gwyneth Porter.”

“She’s not that bad actually.” Felicity replied.

“Now that I doubt.” Natalie said. “Can you hand me that box?”

Natalie and Felicity were grocery shopping for their Friday pizza and movie night.

“Shoot. I forgot the chips.” Natalie said.

Felicity scanned the store and noticed the lines were quite long.

“I’ll get the chips and you go wait in line.” Felicity said.

“Alright.” Natalie replied.

Felicity walked across the store and headed down the snack aisle.

“Where are they?” Felicity mumbled as she moved down the aisle.

Who knew finding ridged chips would be so difficult?

“Ah…there we go.” She said as she reached up to grab a bag.

As she did this her hand brushed against another hand. Felicity turned and found herself face to face with Lance Bass.

“Oh…sorry.” She said dropping her hand.

Lance handed her the bag and threw another one into his cart.

“We seem to be good at bumping into each other huh?” he asked.

“It would appear so.” Felicity said.

Now she could just say bye and walk away, but Gwyneth was expecting results.

“So what are you up to?” she asked.

Lance seemed a little surprised she was sticking around to talk to him.

“Just picking up a few things for a party this weekend.” He told her.

“Party?” she asked.

“Yeah, Justin’s having a pool party on Saturday night.” Lance replied.

“Cool.” Felicity said trying to think of a way she could get invited to the party. She needed to spend some time alone with Lance if this plan was going to work.

“Would you like to go?” he asked.

Felicity’s mouth almost dropped to the floor. What luck!

“To the party?” she asked.

“Yes. Ummm…with me.” He added.

Felicity hid a smile…this was working out better than she expected. Lance must have mistaken her silence for a ‘no.’

“I mean you don’t have to go with me if you don’t want…” he started.

“No, no! I want to go.” Felicity said.

Lance smiled. “Okay cool. Umm…I’ll pick you up on Saturday at like 6:00-ish?”

“Sounds good. Here’s my address and number.” She said quickly jotting down the info on a slip of paper.

“Okay. See you then.” Lance said.

“Bye.” Felicity said as she headed over to the check-out line where Natalie was waiting.

“Jeehz…what took so long?” Natalie asked. “Why are you smiling? Is Dan Miller in the store?!”

Felicity chuckled. “No. Actually I just bumped into Lance Bass.”

“Ohhh! Almost as good as Dan Miller.” Natalie replied.

“He asked me to go with him to Justin Timberlake’s pool party this weekend.” She said.

“Seriously?” Natalie asked. “That’s awesome.”

“Yeah, I guess it is.” Felicity said.

She and Natalie paid for their groceries and as they walked to her car Felicity began to feel guilty. Lance seemed like a nice enough guy…too bad she had to break his heart.

*****

“I’ll be right back.” Felicity said to Natalie over the ringing phone. “Hello?”

“Hey Felicity, it’s Gwyneth.” Gwyneth said.

“Oh, hi. What’s up?” Felicity asked.

“That’s why I called. Any progress?” she questioned.

Felicity stuck her head out the kitchen door. Natalie was engrossed in “Joy Ride” so it was safe to talk.

“Actually yes. He invited me to a party Justin is having on Saturday.” Felicity said.

“Good. Wow, this is going along better than I thought. Anyway, remember what you’re doing here.” Gwyneth said.

“Right.” Felicity said.

“Okay then. I’ll call you Monday for a report.” Gwyneth told her.

“Fine. Talk to you later.” Felicity said hanging up the phone.

“Felicity get in here quick…Paul Walker is naked!!” Natalie squealed.

Felicity laughed. “Coming!”
