Chapter Eight-Falling

Friday…

“So where are we going?” Felicity asked.

“You’ll see.” Lance replied as he drove along the highway.

“Lance.” Felicity whined.

“Felicity.” He mocked back.

Felicity laughed. “Fine, I’ll be good.”

“We’re almost there anyway.” He said.

Felicity nodded. “Cool. How’s recording going?”

“Pretty well.” He said turning off the highway. “The material is different from our other albums.”

“When are you guys releasing the album?” she asked.

“End of July.” Lance said. “We’re here.”

Felicity looked out the window and discovered they were at the beach. Lance helped Felicity out of the car and took some things out of the trunk. He spread a blanket on the sand and started digging through a picnic basket.

“Ohh…home-cooked food for me?” Felicity asked.

“Something like that.” He said laughing.

“That’s one thing I miss about home…real food.” Felicity commented.

“Same here. You haven’t lived until you’ve eaten my mom’s pecan pie. You’ll have to come home with to Mississippi sometime.” Lance said.

“I’d like that.” Felicity said, truly meaning it.

The pair talked and laughed all through dinner. Felicity found herself forgetting this was all part of the plan because she was really enjoying this time with Lance.

“What time is it?” Lance asked.

Felicity looked down at her watch. “9:00. Why?”

Suddenly there was a burst of color in the sky.

“That’s why.” Lance said. “The pier has a fireworks display every Friday night.”

“Are you serious?” Felicity squealed. “I love fireworks.”

Lance smiled. “Then I guess I did a good job planning this date.”

Felicity nodded. “It would have been perfect no matter what, you’re here.”

This caused Lance to blush and Felicity to smile. She was worried she had been laying it on a tad thick but Lance seemed to be going for it.

They watched the fireworks in silence. Felicity began to rub her arms halfway through the show.

“Cold?” Lance asked.

“A little.” Felicity said.

Lance put his arms around Felicity and pulled her closer to him.

“Better?” he asked.

“Yes, thank you.” She replied.

Lance turned back to the sky but Felicity couldn’t concentrate on the fireworks anymore. At that moment Felicity realized she may be getting into something way over her head.
