Chapter Two

“We need more markers!” Johanna shouted out. “Water too.”

The guys were getting ready to do a meet and greet and Johanna was beside herself. She prided herself on being well organized and when others weren’t it greatly bothered her.

“Calm down J.” Dan said. “I don’t need you freaking out.”

Johanna ran her hand over her face. “Is it so hard that the venue actually do what I ask them too?”

“Come here.” Dan said pulling her into a hug. “It will work out. It always does.”

Johanna stepped back. “Thanks Dan.”

“Ohhh…their at it again!” Trevor called.

“Dan and Johanna sittin’ in a tree.” Ashley started to sing.

“For the millionth time there is nothing going on between me and Dan.” Johanna said exasperated.

“We know. We just love to tease.” Ashley said.

“Just get your annoying butts into these chairs and smile. Your fans will be here soon.” She said.

Ashley, Trevor, and Dan settled into their chairs and Jacob and Erik quickly walked in the room.

“I’m ready for my public.” Erik said.

Johanna rolled her eyes. “And I always thought Ashley was the drama queen.”

“Should I be insulted by that comment?” Ashley asked.

Jacob laughed. “If you have to think about that…”

“Hush up guys, here they come.” Johanna said motioning to the door.

About forty squealing girls streamed into the room. Johanna always enjoyed watching the guys interact with the fans. These girls, and occasionally guys, were something else.

Later that day…..

“Then she was like seriously I have your name tattooed on my ankle and sure enough it was.” Jacob said.

“That is so wrong. If I ever did something like that my ankle would say like Taylor Hanson or something.” Johanna said.

“You liked Hanson?” Dan asked.

“Shhh…it was a dark moment in my life.” Johanna replied.

Everyone laughed.

“So what’s the plan for tomorrow?” Erik asked.

“Well…” Johanna said as she pulled out her palm pilot. “You have to be in the studio at eight and later that afternoon there’s a management meeting.”

“Eight?” Ashley whined.

“You want some cheese to go with that whine Ash?” Jacob asked.

“I wouldn’t talk Jacob…king of the whiners.” Johanna said sarcastically.

“Now you’re in for it.” Jacob said standing up.

Johanna ran behind Dan. “Save me.”

“No, your boyfriend isn’t going to save you now.” He said inching towards her.

“For the last time…” Johanna said.

“He’s not your boyfriend.” Everyone said in unison.

That night…

“No, not again.” Johanna said hiding under her blanket.

Rain pelted the ground as thunder roared and lightening lit up the sky.

“Don’t be such a baby.” Johanna mumbled to herself.

The thunder cracked again.

“I’m gonna die.” Johanna said getting out of bed and looking out the window. She jumped about fifty feet when a lightening bolt flashed. She headed out of her room and into the kitchen.

“If I get a nice glass of milk I’ll calm down.” She told herself.

Johanna took a glass out of the cabinet and grabbed the milk from the fridge. With her hand shaking she poured the milk and sat down at the table. Ever since Johanna could remember she had been terrified of storms. Not just like “Ah, a storm” she was seriously scared to death. Suddenly the overhead light flicked on.

“Ahhh!!” she screamed.

“Johanna! It’s just me.” Dan said.

She slowly regained her breath. “Are you nuts? Are you trying to kill me?”

“Sorry.” He said. Then he took a closer look at her. “J, what’s wrong?”

She shook her head quickly. “Nothing.”

“Then what are you doing in the kitchen at three o’clock in the morning?” he asked.

“I could ask you the same question…ahhh!” she screeched as the thunder cracked again.

“Are you scared of the storm or something?” he asked.

“Give the boy a prize.” Johanna said sarcastically.

Dan began to laugh.

“What’s so funny?” she asked.

“Nothing…just I never pictured you as the scaredy cat type.” He said.

“I’m not.” She said. He gave her a knowing look. “Well, yeah. Just don’t go spreading it around.”

“Scout’s honor.” He said walking back upstairs.

“You’re leaving me?!?” she said.

“Yeah, I’m tired.” He said.

“Your best friend in the entire universe is scared to death and you’re going back to bed?” she questioned.

“Yep.” He said.

“Dan!!” she cried.

“You are so easy to manipulate.” He said to her as he walked back into the kitchen.

“Meanie.” She said pouting.

“You’re mature.” He said rolling his eyes.

“Yeah, I know.” She said smiling.

“Come on. I don’t see you falling asleep anytime soon so let’s go in the living room and watch some TV. Boring infomercials will put you right to sleep.” He said grabbing her hand and heading towards the couch.

The two settled down and Dan flipped on the TV and they watched for a few moments.

“Wow. Who wouldn’t want to pay $55.95 for a …” Dan started until he noticed Johanna had fallen asleep with her head on his shoulder.
