“Cause you suck.” She replied.
Johanna was silent for a moment. “Very true.”
When the girls got back to the house the guys had decided they wanted to go bowling. Dan took Johanna aside and asked if everything was okay. Johanna reassured him that everything was fine.
“My turn.” Trevor said jumping up and heading to the lane. “Yes! STRIKE! I’m on fire.”
Grace rolled her eyes. “Umm...last time I checked you needed to knock down all the pins to get a strike.”
“Duh…oh.” Trevor said realizing that he only knocked down nine pins.
“Total Ash moment.” Johanna said.
“Hey! I’m insulted.” Ashley replied.
“Oh man…Ash actually got the joke.” Dan said in a sarcastic voice.
“Okay, before there’s a throw down…let’s be nice.” Erik said.
“Indeed. Jacko’s turn.” Grace said.
Jacob slowly got up and retrieved his bowling ball.
“Dude, my grandma moves faster than that.” Grace mumbled.
Jacob shot her a look and she tried her best to look innocent.
“For your information I didn’t even want to come out with you all tonight. We could be using this time to….” Jacob started.
“To practice, bla-bla-bla. Y’all needed to have some fun tonight. You’ll be working all week anyway.” Grace said.
Jacob was about to comment, but Johanna interfered.
“Kids, we need to chill. Why don’t we take a break and get food or something.” she suggested.
Everyone agreed and went their separate ways. Johanna and Dan remained on the bench.
“Nice going J. I thought there was about to be a smackdown.” Dan said.
“Actually I kind of would like to see Grace beat up Jacob. It would be quite entertaining.” Johanna told him.
“Yeah, it would be, but still.” He said.
“I know.” She said.
The two were quiet for a moment.
“Are you sure you’re okay?” Dan asked.
Here it goes again. Johanna had been wrestling with the idea of telling Dan about her feelings the entire evening.
“I’m fine. Everything is fine.” She replied smiling.
