“You’re right. I wanted to ask you what the kiss meant.” He said. “I mean we’re just friends.”
Johanna nodded. “But didn’t you ever wonder…what would happen if we were more? You kinda mentioned it the other week.”
Dan was silent for a moment. He thought about it all the time. He never knew Johanna felt the way he had been feeling since the moment he met her. But still…
“Well, I didn’t really mean anything by that. I’ve never pictured us as more than friends.” He told her.
Johanna’s entire face fell. “Oh.”
Dan’s heart broke in half, but he knew it was better this way. He couldn’t imagine his life without Johanna and he was afraid that if they took their relationship to the next level and it didn’t work out he’d lose his best friend.
“Then why don’t we just forget it happened.” Johanna said quietly.
Dan nodded. “Heat of the moment or something.”
“Right.” She replied glancing at the clock. “It’s getting late.”
“Yeah.” Dan said. “Night.”
“Night.” She echoed as he left the room.
The next day…
Johanna pounded on Grace’s door.
“Gracie!!!” Johanna called.
The opened quickly.
“Are you okay?” Grace asked with a concerned voice.
“Yeah, nothings wrong. Is it okay if I hang out with you today?” she asked.
“I guess. Don’t you have work today?” Grace questioned.
“I made an executive decision to take the day off.” She told her.
“Are you sure you’re okay? You never take the day off.” Grace said.
Johanna shrugged. “I don’t really feel like being around the guys today.”
Grace raised her eyebrow. “Care to share?”
“Later.” Johanna said.
Grace shrugged. “Okay, umm…I’m going to the Sea World today, just so you know.”
“Fine. Whatever. I just need to get out of here.” Johanna replied.
At Sea World….
“So…” Grace said. “We’re not in the vicinity of the compound.”
“Right. Well…Dan came into my room last night and was asked me if I wanted to him about the talk about the kiss.” She said.
“The kiss?” Grace asked confused.
“Yeah. While y’all were out I kinda kissed him. And before he could say anything you guys came home.” Johanna said.
“Oh wow. So what happened when he walked in?” Grace asked.
“I said that I wanted to talk about it. And he asked what it meant because he thought we were just friends. Then I asked him if he ever thought about being more than friends considering he mentioned it the other day.” Johanna continued.
“What did he say?” Grace asked.
“At first he was really quiet. Then he flat out said no.” Johanna said.
“Ouch.” Grace replied.
Johanna nodded. “And it’s not like I can be mad at him or anything. I can’t make him like me.”
“Well, soon you’ll be out of the house and you won’t see him as much.” Grace told her.
“Yeah.” Johanna replied. “But he’s still my friend. I just hope things aren’t weird.”
