Author's Notes: OK, so I'm a bit obssessed with our original crew
of Sliders. This is a little attempt to "put right what once went
wrong." It is set in the 5th season BEFORE Requeim (that's muy
importante), but after the nanites erased Quinn from Mallory's mind.

Part 1
The familiar blue vortex swirled as Mallory stood, the last of his
companions to slide off this world. It had been a peaceful slide,
what with America having solved the world's hunger problem with the
so-called "delicious" pill. "Humph..." Mallory snorted. "I'd still
rather have a cheeseburger."
[So would I] said a soft male voice inside his skull.
"Oh man...," said Mallory, wincing as he jumped headfirst into the
slide. "He's back."
"OOOOOOph!" cried Remmie as he stumbled onto the sand. Maggie and
Diana followed shortly, threatening to fall on top off him. But being
the most experienced "lander" in the group, he quickly rolled ouit of
their way. Mallory flew out last, a serious look on his face. "That's
wierd," thought Remmie. "Man, that boy usually screams like he's
riding a roller coaster." But he shrugged it off as he took in the
beauty of their surroundings.
The Sliders stood on what looked to be a deserted beach. The ocean
was a bright blue, and the sand so clean it almost looked clear.
"Think they never invented smog on this world Rem?" Maggie joked
pensively. She liked nature and all, but she much preferred a good
city over deserted worlds any day. No civilization usually equalled
wild animals...and even wilder people. She gazed cautiously around,
surveying their situation.
"How much time 'till we slide Remmie?" said Diana, involuntarily
hugging herself. She, too preferred the cool solidarity of a city to
the harshness of nature. In fact, really she was most comfortable in
a stark lab, working on some unfathomable equation. She still hadn't
quite adjusted to the stark transitions in the worlds that she and
the other sliders visited.
"4 days, 2 hours, 6 mins," Remmie said, glancing at the timer.
"Oh man..." sighed Maggie. 4 days in nowheresville? She might as
well build a hut and start singing Cumbaya.
"Oh c'mon guys, this place is great," said Mallory, who sparked a
bit at Remmie's words. "It's clean, beautiful, quiet..."
"Yeah, too quiet," joked Remmie. "I was really hoping for a
cheeseburger after a week of those delicious pills too."
"Well, we're not going to find cheeseburgers on the seagulls, so I
suggest we see where we are, and if there actually is some sort of
city around here," suggested Diana, as she brushed sand from her blue
corduroy pants.
"Yeah let's go...I'm starving!," said Mallory with a grin.
[You guys should head east, there might be some kind of city
that way. It looks like we might be in malibu or somewhere around
that area...but there's no super huge houses.]
"Malibu..." said Mallory under his breath.
"What was that Mallory?" said Maggie with a smile, as she looked
back at him.
"Oh...uh nothing...just mumbling to myself," Mallory said quickly,
flushing. Why oh why, he thought angrily, had Quinn chosen to come
back into his mind now?

Part 2
"Look guys," said Maggie, pointing at a silver rectangular shape
in the distance. "I think I see a building."
The four companions had walked east across the sand for a good 20
minutes. The beach they were stretched farter inland than any ocean
waters they could ever remember seeing before.
"Yeah...yeah...and there's another one," said Remmie wonderingly,
as another silver shape popped up into their point of view.
"Wierd," said Diana thoughtfully. "They look like they're almost
coming out of nowhere."
Mallory hung back from the group. He knew he should tell them that
Quinn was back in his head -- but he was afraid. "If they have him
back, I might as well jump in the ocean," he thought as he kicked
some sand with his foot.
"Hey! Fogboy," Remmie called over his shoulder. "Pick up the pace.
I want to eat something some time today."
"Yeah, yeah," muttered Mallory, his thoughts becoming more and
more morose. But he jogged to catch up with the others.
They had treached the outcropping of a futuristic city. The edges
of it seemed to meld in the sand like a puddle. The city itself was
bigger than imagination, stretching across the eastern skyline like a
giant monolith.
Diana smiled. "Now this is more like it," she said, looking
appreciatively at the well-structured buildings.
"You're tellin' me," said Remmie. "Let's go eat!"
"Always leading by your stomach Rem," teased Maggie with a grin.
"You'd make a great general!"
As they stepped onto the plain flat surface a shimmering ripple
divided the air. It tickled them slightly as it passed through
them.
"What was that?" said Diana.
A piercing alarm answered her question. "WARNING! WARNING!
INTRUDER ALERT! WARNING!" spelled out a deep bass voice.
"Making friends already," said Mallory. He and the others turned
to go back to the beach, but to their shocked surprise, what had been
air was now a solid blank wall.
The sound of marching feet to their left drew their frantic
attention as the alarm contiued to sound.
"Uh oh," said Maggie seeing what looked like a regiment of an army
coming straight for them. "I knew this world was too pretty for it's
own good. Let's bolt!"
She led the way, and the other Sliders followed.
"Do you think we can lose them?" gasped out Diana as they ran into
the city itself and hid behind an outcropping of pale green
buildings.
"You better pray we can girl!" siad Remmie. "Did you see those
nasty looking weapons?"
[Man that was close] said the voice inside Mallory's head.
"You're telling me," he responded.
Maggie gave him an odd look. "Who is he talking to?" she thought.
But she didn't have much time to examine it, as the soldiers that had
spotted them were still on their tail.
There was a clicking noise from behind them, and the the four
sliders turned with hands up, their faces mirrors of dread.
A human youth and his legion stood there with his troupe. He
looked no more than 16. "Halt in the name of the Kromagg Dynasty," he
said with blank eyes.
It was those eyes that made Remmie comply more than the gun in the
boy's hand.
Diana whimpered in the background. Maggie sighed. "Great not
another Kromagg earth," she thought. "You sure you know how to use
that toy son?" she said.
The boy said nothing, but one of his men swiftly fired a shot that
burst into Maggie's shoulder.
Maggie gasped from the pain and fell back. There was a gaping
wound in her upper shoulder that was bleeding. She turned pale.
Remmie rushed to her side. "Guess they are serious," she mumered
through clenched teeth. "When are you gonna learn to hold your tongue
Maggie?" he responded.
"What the hell do you and your Kromaggot friends want with us?" he
shot back at the boy.
"You are to be prisoners of the Dynasty at the request of the
Commander." The boy guestured to a wall, where a previously unseen
poster came into focus.
"Oh my god," said Remmie and Mallory at the same time.
