The Palace of Knossos is the largest ruin of the ancient civilization of the Minoans, who ruled Crete around 4000 years ago. There is much mystery about the Minoans and their relative isolation seems to have allowed them to develop a rather unique and interesting culture. I ran across a map of the palace and decided use computer technology to allow me to see what it may have looked like if the ruins had just been excavated. I scanned and cleaned up the map, then imported it into Bryce 3D as a terrain image, which raised areas of the image according to grayscale level.
The maze-like ruins of Knossos, by the way, is thought to have inspired the Greek myth of the Labyrinth and the Minotaur (the Minoans apparently worshipped the Bull).
