:: 1994 ::

C|Net has a section called "Trends" which is sometimes overlooked. Small Mistake. I find most of their articles to be worth the 100k download time.

They have recently published one called "Who wants to be a net millionaire". Beside the title (that says it all), one more sentence (on page 2) is worth stopping by: "Jerry Yang was in graduate school when he founded Yahoo in 1994. All he wanted was an easy way to categorize information on the Web. Now he's worth an estimated $3.7 billion."

There is one very important truth here that should not go unnoticed. It's not that he left school for a start-up, it's not that he did what he did because he needed his own product and it's obviously not that he is worth $3.7B. The very important truth is that he did it in 1994.

1994.

When you hear about the next start-up planning to become a vertical leader and market maker for B2B ASP enabled web businesses over cellular ask them - where were you in 1994?.

I for one didn't even own a PC. And I sure didn't know there was a Wadi here.

Where were you in 1994?
